Sabo frowned as she entered Jesper's room at the local inn. Nobody looked ready to leave, only Kaz was wearing a thick grey coat and was holding a bag.
'Are we ready to leave?' Sabo asked as she looked at them.
Jesper was asleep on the bed, clearly exhausted after taking the last shift of keeping watch. Wylan looked at him with a thoughtful expression. Kaz turned away from the conversation he'd been having with Inej and stepped to Sabo. 'You have everything?' Kaz asked.
Sabo met Kaz's gaze. 'I do,' she said confused as she looked at the others. 'Aren't the others coming? Where are Matthias and Nina?'
Kaz shook his head. 'Nina and Matthias are in their room and the others are staying here. We can get the errands together, it's not that big of a job,' he responded.
Sabo looked at Inej who was standing by the window. Sabo followed her gaze and looked at the sky.
There was a storm coming.
Sabo recognized the Fjerdan clouds in an instant.
A snowstorm.
The sky may look ordinary, but it came with a gut feeling that had kept the Fjerdan people safe from dying from the cold. Only the Fjerdans knew this kind of weather, only they knew what kind of storm resulted from it.
Kaz walked past her before Sabo could say anything about it. Sabo sighed annoyed before she said goodbye to the others and followed Kaz.
'Kaz, we can't leave,' Sabo said as she walked down the stairs and caught up with him. 'There's a storm coming.'
Kaz waited by the door and met her gaze. 'How do you know?'
'I grew up in this country, remember?' Sabo spoke as she opened the door to the inn. The bell that hung above the door rang.
Sabo observed the clouds as the cold air flew in her face. 'Weather like this can get dangerous, and I don't have my powers to keep us warm.'
'How long until the storm hits?' Kaz asked as he looked at the sky.
Sabo saw the look of determination on his face and knew that she wouldn't be able to talk him out of going.
'Storms like these are not predictable, Kaz. We should stay with the others.'
A small smirk made its way to Kaz's lips. 'And here I was thinking that you wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.'
'I do,' Sabo spoke as she held onto her bag tighter, Kaz observed her. 'But you shouldn't take this weather lightly, people die in storms like these.' Sabo narrowed her eyes as she stepped in front of him. 'If one of us starts showing signs of hypothermia, we're on our own, you do understand that right?'
'People die while crossing the street,' Kaz spoke as he stepped outside and leaned on his cane. 'Either I go alone, or you're coming with me, your choice.'
----
Even though Sabo was wearing multiple layers of clothing, she could feel the cold in her bones. The air became colder with the minute as it had started to snow. Sabo and Kaz had wrapped scarves around their heads and were wearing goggles to protect their eyes from the cold.
'You happy now?' Sabo shouted so Kaz could hear her over the sound of the wind. 'What errand is so important that we have to survive a storm for it?'
They had been walking for an hour. Kaz had told her that they were close to their destination, but so far, the only thing that surrounded them was snow-covered mountains.
