It takes many sheep to satisfy one wolf

Nora was walking the familiar path back to her house alone. Jessica had to stay longer due to a project she had with some others in their class. She didn't really realize what time it was until the tiny warmth from the sun began disappearing and the familiar area became more and more darker every second passing by.
Shit, I need to hurry home or else I'll have to walk in the dark.
She walked quickly by the bus stop, rounded the corner of the familiar street and followed the streetlights which would eventually lead her home back to safety. The sound of a message on her phone caused her to stop in her tracks and search for it in her pocket before finding it, her hands shaking as she opened it.
”Dad” the text said. Nora looked around to see if anything unusually could be seen before she looked down at the screen again.
”r u home yet?
I’ll b home l8 2night, have to help a colleague.
Be careful.
Love, dad.”
So it would be another lonely night tonight again she thought and sighed. Paul had been working late three nights in a row now and he always came home weary and exhausted before he collapsed in the sofa or in his bedroom, snoring so loudly Nora had to wear earplugs to be able to sleep. She text quickly a sentence to him stating that she was soon home and all right. After putting her phone back in her pocket, Nora picked up her speed and continued walking home again.
A crow was sitting in a willow tree nearby and watched every step she took, almost as if it was judging her.
Or perhaps keeping an eye on her.
The cold breeze flew through her clothes and made her shiver. She pulled the jacket and scarf closer around her body and neck as the wind sang its lamentation in the darker and darker afternoon. The sky had a reddish-purple tone to it and soon the moon would provide the only light in the cold and dark night, while its twin the sun would take its rest as it always did this time before returning in the morning.
As Nora walked she noticed how quiet it actually was. No traffic, no people, nothing.
Only silence.
The street lights began flickering and soon bright but cold light shone down and onto Nora.
I could turn left for a shortcut, however that path would lead me to the one next outside St. Angelica’s park…
Nora stopped and looked around her.
Would she dare to do it? It would save her so much time but on the other hand it was quickly becoming darker and there was a killer on the loose after all. An insane and hideous person lurking in the shadows of the trees and houses, wanting nothing more than to find and molest its next victim…
She looked at her clock.
17:23.
”Be careful, sweetie”. She remembered her dad telling her.
She sighed before she decided to continue walking forward. Ignoring the warnings from the police, media AND her father would be an insane mistake.
One that could cost Nora her life.
She glanced around before she continued. Strange, she hadn’t met anyone while she’d walked. Even though most people stayed inside or simple refused to leave their homes since the first murder was reported she found it a bit odd that not even one person had crossed her path this afternoon. It felt, suspicious.
