The day did drag itself by slowly. Neither of them talked to one another as the weather outside felt bleak and grim. The sun didn't bother to come out anymore now it seemed. The first snowflakes had made its arrival and sheltered the brown and gray leaves from harsh icy-winds with were to soon arrive.

The town was quite, as if it had gone to sleep as the rest of its still remaning residents. Most had fled by now, yet some still persisted - seemingly hoping this nightmare were to end soon.

Yet, deepest inside they all knew that was only wishful-thinking and nothing else.

Nora and Jeff had been in the same apartment for some days now. He would carefully move them with two or three days interval. Now they'd been here at least 5 or was it perhaps six days? It did not really matter anymore.

Not to Nora at least. It felt as if her days now circled around waking up and going back to sleep and sometimes follow Jeff to a new location as a puppy in a leash. What else was there for her to do after all?

The predator did not let his gaze be off of her for any longer periods of times. As much as she hated it, she could not help to feel a bit comforted as that at least must mean she was worth protecting.

Or something. Nora did honestly not know anymore.

Her skin had lost most of its color as had her hair. Its usually nut-brown tone hade started becoming darker with hints of white straws in it. She figured it probably was due to every mental breakdown and heartache which now started to take its tool on her presence and body, not to even mention her mind.

If it was possible to actually feel your sanity deplete further and further for each day which went by and turn more and more into insanity, Nora knew that must be were she was heading. As nighttime came and she huddled up into a bed in a strangers house - she could not help feeling comforted when Jeff lay down next to her shivering body to offer her some warmth. She huddled closer to him as sleep once more took her in its grip once more.

However it would not last for long as the haunting nightmares of her fathers dying screech in that black forest that night, forced her awake yet again. She sat up screaming as her throat burnt of dryness. Jeff slapped a white hand over her lips to muffle her screams.

"It's okay, just a dream" he whispered as the whiteness of his eyes looked at her.

She knew that. Yet, it still haunted her.

He let his hand fall from her lips as she could hear the blood pumping in her ears.

"Am I always going to be haunted by screams? For as long as I live?"

Her voice was so small and fragile that she barely recognized it. Still feeling his eyes on her, she hid her face in her hands as the burning tears began to emerge from red and swollen eyes.

"Why?" her voice cracked in the darkness.

Why?

Jeff knew what she talked about. Or who she spoke of.

He sigh, as he knew what he needed to tell her although the thought did not appeal to him the slightest.

"It wouldn't settle with any soul Nora" Jeff's voice answered calmly, drowned in emptiness as the human next to him cried in agony and rising anger. "If that had been the case I would have picked some random person in this, pity mess of a town. Anyone else. I promise you that"

"You liar!!" Nora suddenly shrieked, seemingly feeling as if her entire being was being ripped apart yet again. She flung herself up from the bed and managed to snake pass Jeff's attempt to catch her body.
