I walked out of Loki and my's room when the sun had just started to rise. I needed to stretch my legs a little. I looked down the hall and saw then man Loki called Barton sitting on the couch, looking out the window.
"Hello," I said. No reply "Barton?" Still nothing. I slowly walked over and stopped behind him. Barton didn't even move. Did I do something? If I did, I didn't know. I reached out and touched Barton's shoulder gently making him jump.
"Hey, Miss... Amelia, Was it? Sorry, didn't notice you there" He said with a slightly off voice. His face aimed at my lips.
"But I was calling you," I said, confused.
"Oh... umm... I'm just a little tired" Barton lied.
"I can tell that that's not true. Were you ignoring me?" I asked, hurt.
"Of course not! I just... I'm gonna go" Barton got up and walked back to his room, locking the door. I tiled my head, confused about why Barton was acting strange. I followed him back to his room and knocked on the door. No reply.
"Fine then" I muttered, walking away. Barton wanted to give me the silent treatment and not tell me why he was mad, so be it. I could see why Loki didn't like these people. Were they all rude?
Later that day, Barton was getting some fruit and I was leaning against the pillar while eating an apple. He spotted me and walked over to me.
"Hey, Miss. Sorry about earlier, I just... I'm sorry" I just glared at him and then turned back to look at the wall behind Barton "Miss?" I continued to ignore Barton. Barton tilted his head in confusion. He then got his fruit and started to walk away. I felt guilty. Should I have spoken to him?
An hour later, I was still giving him the silent treatment.
"What happened between you and Barton?" The lady known as Black Widow asked, voice full of concern.
"He gave me the silent treatment one morning and then left when I asked him why. So I am doing the same for him" I replied.
"What time was it?" She asked.
"An hour or so ago. What does that have to do with all this?" I said, frustrated.
"Barton may hate me for telling you this, but it's for your own good" Black Widow began. My anger turned to confusion "Barton is deaf. He doesn't have his hearing aids in that early in the morning. He takes them out and sits on the couch and looks out the window because it calms him. He wasn't ignoring you. He couldn't hear you"
"What are hearing aids?"
"You know when you put your fingers in your ears to block out sounds?" I nodded "Hearing aids do the opposite, They allow sound in"
"Oh shit... I'm such a cow" I said with the realization "So that's why Barton was watching my lips when he spoke"
"Yep"
"Thank you Black Widow" I bowed.
"My name is Natasha" She smiled "You might want to go and apologize now" Black Widow turned to walk away, and I started towards Barton's room.
Feeling like an idiot, I walked up to his door and knocked twice. No answer. I don't know why I was expecting one. I knocked once more.
"Barton. It's Amelia. I'm sorry. Natasha told me about your ears and I want to say sorry for being a cow" I said through the door. For a good minute, I heard nothing and as I went to walk away, I heard some shuffling. Barton opened it.
"Please don't think of me as weak" Barton said quietly. He looked like he had been crying. I pulled him into a hug.
"Never. In fact, I think you are a strong person. You have many threats on Midgard from what Thor told me and even though you cannot hear, You don't let that stop you from protecting everyone" I let him go "Wear your deafness like a shield and no one can bring you down"
"Is that why only Loki can get past your shields?" Barton tilted his head.
"Yes, Is that a problem?" I folded my arms.
"I don't make a secret that I hate the guy. He made me a false version of who I was" Barton closed his door behind him.
"Walk with me" I sighed.
We walked to the railings and looked out towards the horizon.
"Barton, Why can't you see that what happened to you was the same thing that happened to Loki" I sighed "Thanos was controlling him as much as he was controlling you"
"You don't know that" Barton scoffed. I took a deep breath in.
"Oh but I do. I asked him. He told me everything" I never took my gaze off the scenery.
"So The God Of Lies And Mischief told you the truth? Why you and no one else?" Barton questioned.
"Because I took the time and day to get to know him" I snapped "And I learned that no one good is ever truly good and no one bad is ever truly bad"
"Where Loki is just evil" Barton crossed his arms. I spotted in the corner of my eye that Natasha was around "And a monster"
"Loki is not a monster"
"I'm sorry, I just find it strange" Barton held his hands up in defence.
"I've had this talk with Loki's father and I will tell you what I told him. Word for word" I turned to my right and faced the man "You may think it strange, Why I always like the bad guys more. A hero would sacrifice his love to save the world, showing that they are indeed pure-hearted and honest but a villain would tear the world apart if they were hurt. They seem selfish, manipulative and rude to everyone around but he treats his love like a queen or a king, his and only his. Sitting beside him on a throne with their own crown. I think villains are misjudged and most of the time, We don't get to see their story. For if we knew it, The hero may not seem so full of glory. Monsters are made, Not born and any soul tortured, Confused, And abused incidentally, would not have time to mourn. So the next time I defend the villain of the tale, Remember that they too, Were once broken and frail" I snarled. Barton took a step back as Natasha backed him up.
"Barton, You better not be causing trouble. We gave Thor our word" She whispered loudly.
"What makes you think I am causing trouble? We only got told to behave at the party not any other time of the day" Barton glared at his friend.
"We still gave our word to behave" Natasha pinched her nose.
"Don't forget you are guests in this place too. Surely Midgard has some culture" I tilted my head. I put my hands in my pockets and felt a rose appear. I, of course, smiled like an idiot "So if will excuse me. I need to get back to my room and prepare for the day" I pushed past the two Avengers and went straight into my room where Loki was waiting for me. I might just have to listen to the voice in my head.
"You've been gone about an hour and a half and nearly caused an argument" Loki was sat up in bed, reading a book.
"You heard, Huh?" I flopped on the bed. Facedown into my pillow. I heard the book close "Thanks for the distraction by the way"
"One that you have just squished and you didn't have to defend me"
"Why not? If you get to protect me then I should be able to do the same" My voice muffled against the cotton covers. Loki laughed.
"Okay, Point taken but I won't get angry and burn everything down" Loki ran a hand up and down my back.
"1, I can't burn everything down. The palace is mainly stone" I held one finger and then a second "And 2, Barton deserved it"
"Oh, my sweet. I know but we have to have some boundaries. Now, why don't we get up and have some food"
"Yeah okay," I said after thinking for a good minute.
Once all of The Avengers were up, The conversation I have been dreading started. I walked them through what I knew and so did Thor. Loki wasn't happy with him because he had lied to me but they would have a separate conversation away from everyone.
"So Banner and I found your DNA on a file" The man called Stark spoke first. He flung a folder at me and I started reading. I read my file and ran a hand over my younger self's picture. While the file was about me. It didn't have my parent's names on it "You must have been part of the same programme as Wanda and her brother"
"I don't know them" I shock my head.
"One does red magic and the other is really fast" Natasha explained. My head shot up. I knew them by powers, not names.
"That struck a chord" Stark replied "What do you remember?"
"Only what I have told you. I remember the pair of them. So my dreams are what I thought they were. Memories?"
"More likely. If you could come to earth then maybe we might find something that will trigger them" Stark's friend Banner spoke up.
"Is that going to be wise?" The man that looks like a triangle said "I don't mean any disrespect but if you go then we all know that he won't be far behind" He pointed to Loki. I noticed under the table, Loki's leg was bobbing up and down. I put my hand on his leg. Squeezing gently.
"It's fine" Loki spoke plainly.
"My brother is not the same man that you knew. He has changed" Thor stood behind us.
"Other than how he acts with his one, We have no reason to believe he has changed" Natasha leant back in her chair.
"I can give you my word that I am trying to be the better person" Loki insisted "Amelia is helping me with that"
"So you and reindeer games here is a thing?" Stark sat at the table and eat some blueberries. He offered Banner some.
"Yes," Loki and I answered at the same time.
"Great" Barton scoffed. Natasha elbowed him in the side. Loki sat forward, placing his elbows on the table "Now I know why you defended him"
"I can see that you guys hate me. It is no secret but I swear that I mean you no ill will"
"Okay, we are going off-topic" The triangle man spoke.
"Steve's right" Banner spoke. Mental note: Triangle man is called Steve "Even though it may be a stupid idea. We need you to come to earth and pinpoint where you were"
"I don't know Midgard though. The man with the metal arm will know better" I sighed. Steve and Natasha's heads shot up.
"Bucky?" "The Winter Soldier?"
"Yeah him. I think I was 8 when he gave me to Thor" I looked at Thor. He looked away.
"What can you recall from that day?" Steve spoke to me.
"It was stormy weather, I was sitting in my cage. Bucky turned up. Bleeding. He punched my cage door off and carried me out into the woods. We had been running for about 3 days when we got a shiny building and he said he would get his God friend to take me away as they were after me" I recalled, "Is Bucky okay?"
"He's had some rough years. But he is working on it" Natasha replied. Steve agreed.
"Though he doesn't talk about his past much" Steve looked at the table "Though he always used to look to the skies. Said he had family out there somewhere. I guess he meant you"
"He said we were family but I didn't think he meant it. He sent me away" I mumbled as I rubbed my arms.
"He did what he had to do. The people that were after you are horrible people" Natasha spoke.
"Who are they?"
"This group of idiots was a big threat. More so than goth boy here" Stark pointed. Loki frowned but he ignored him "They were kidnapping kids to turn them into weapons. Wanda and her brother were created using the mind stone"
"You were injected with something" Banner sighed "We just don't know what with"
"Could be the super-soldier serum?" Steve lifted his head "Bucky said that they were after her"
"But can that cause Pryokenis? Super strength, Speed and agility yes but powers?" Barton replied.
"Might have activated an underline mutant gene?" Mr Banner was writing stuff down.
"But I ain't fast or strong and I have the balance of a deer on ice" I sighed. Loki squeezed my hand.
"Might just affect you differently" Natasha sighed.
"Maybe Wade knows something about the mutant gene" Barton turned his head to Stark.
"Nope, We are not asking the Merc" Stark refused "He gets within 5 feet of me, I'm sewing his mouth shut"
"Wade is not that bad" Natasha raised her hand.
"You haven't been in the same room as him longer than 2 minutes. God, I'd rather join reindeer games here for a tennis match" Stark complained. Loki rolled his eyes.
"What's tennis?" I whispered to Loki while The Avengers argued. Loki explained it to me.
"If we ever go, I'll take you. Quite fun to watch" Loki smiled at me as he held my hand.
"She can come, You will be staying here" Stark spoke up.
"Oh, I don't think so. You see where Amelia goes. I go" Loki wrapped his arm around me "While I bare no ill will. I don't trust you with my girlfriend"
"He barely trusts me with her" Thor raised his hand "If Amelia was to come to Midgard, Loki could come but he wouldn't be able to leave the tower unless myself AND Amelia were with him"
"You want to treat him as if he is a princess in a fairytale" I frowned. The Avengers looked at each other.
"To keep earth safe, I would chain him up and lock him in the tallest tower" Stark glared at us both.
"Unless Loki gets the same rights as I do, I ain't going to Midgard and you will have to find these people by yourself" I crossed my left leg over my right and placed my hands in my lap.
"Amelia, They have reason to judge me" Loki whispered.
"And like I said, That was who you were then not who you are now" I gave everyone the side-eye "And if they can't see that, Then they are Midgard's dumbest heroes, Not the mightiest heroes"
"Is she always like this?" Steve whispered to Thor. I smirked.
"As I have said before, Only three women scare me" Thor held up 3 fingers "One is my mother. Two is Sif and 3 is Amelia"
"She must be good then" Banner stared at me.
"She once scared Thor into keeping his room clean" Loki grinned.
"Could have done with you when fighting Thanos" Barton went to the open window. The Avengers started talking among themselves.
"Thor! Can I have a word?" I spoke. Thor grinned and sat closer to me and Loki.
"What up, Tiny?" He grinned. I coughed as I sat forward.
"Thor, Why did you change my memories?" I looked at Thor "Why didn't you tell me the truth?"
"I never changed them. The healers did. When I brought you to them and told them what had happened and they suggested a complete rewrite. You were never meant to remember" I looked away. I didn't know how to respond. Loki held one hand but Thor grabbed the other "Your memories don't have to be memories. They can stay as dreams and the life that you know here can be who you are"
"For once, I agree with my brother" Loki kissed my temple. I picked up my file and stared at the many head dragon on the front. I ran my hand over the front of it.
"Hydra are a plague on all the nine realms. They need to be stopped but how can I help when I don't know where I was held captive" I sighed "I want to help and it's not as if I can help out there till my powers are under control" Loki ran a hand over his face.
"I am going to regret this" He mumbled. I tilted my head at him as he turned away "Stark!" He called.
"Yes, dear?" Stark folded his arms. Loki took a deep breath in.
"If we were to come to Midgard and I agreed to your terms, Would talking to this Bucky help on finding this base?" Loki stared at the man. Stark clicked his tongue.
"Bucky may open up to Amelia but it is only a small chance" Steve butted in. I took one last look at my file.
"It's your call darling" Loki encouraged.
"Give me some time to think it through. I will let Thor know if I plan to come to your realm" I spoke. The others agreed "Do you need this file back?"
"No" Banner and Stark replied. I then stood up and held the file in my hand. I looked at the smart people through my hair.
"Good" I then waltzed over to the fireplace and threw it on the fire. The paper was taking its time to burn so I let my hands heat up and added more fire to it. It took a few minutes for my hands to cool down.
"Why did you do that?" Steve questioned. Barton walked around the table.
"That file is a false version of me. While Midgard is my possibly my birth realm, I am an Asgardian" I watched the papers turn to ash. I looked over my left shoulder "Nobody likes to be represented as a false version of themselves" Loki and Barton smiled in the corner of my eye.
"Just who is this kid" Stark scrunched his nose up.
"We ask ourselves that question all the time" Thor replied.
"Loki, While I ain't your biggest fan. Don't ever let her go" Barton leaned over Loki's shoulder.
"Oh I don't plan to" Loki smiled at me. I blushed when I caught his gaze. I wonder if he remembers what he said when he was drunk that one time.
