San was sat at the counter of Jiho's parents house, as he was drinking his usual black coffee, and barely listening to Jiho's father's lecture. He wasn't in the mood to listen to someone blabber that much in the morning, so he instead was just scrolling on his phone while the elder man continued to talk nonsense to him.
"Am I right, son?" The elder man said, sliding the plate of bacon and eggs to San, whom just hummed in response. "What kind of nonsense is that?!" He continued to complain, San internally rolling his eyes. After nodding again, Mr. Yang turned to San and asked him a serious question, making San choke on the orange juice he was indulging himself in. "Haven't you noticed Jiho's mood these days? It's more like she's mourning a death than celebrating her wedding!" The man exclaimed, shaking his head, and rubbing his forehead timidly.
"Hm, yeah I have, sir. I just don't know what's wrong with her..." San replied, the lie easily slipping through his tongue.
At that, the father's head whipped up as an idea popped in his head. He snapped his fingers together, "you should take her out to dinner or something! Cheer up her mood. Maybe she feels disconnected from you...?" His voice held so much enthusiasm, San hated it. "Besides, I doubt she's seen your hair yet," the father said playfully.
It was true, San hasn't shown her his hair yet, not that there was a difference really, it was just darker, and shorter from the back. He shrugged, "I'll see if I have time to incorporate a date tonight."
"That's the spirit, son! Oh, and also, drop the 'sir' stuff. You're family now," and after he said that, the old man left the kitchen, looking for his wife.
Once out of sight, San dropped the facade, and groaned in response. "Guess a date wouldn't hurt," he tried to say enthusiastically, when he knew how much this would hurt his pride. Anything to reach the goal, he reminded. And so, he texted Jiho, and told her to get ready for their date tonight.

"It's now or never, San," he tried to pep talk himself into knocking the door that separated him from Jiho. Although he rather it be that way, he eventually knocked, a well dressed Jiho stood in front of him.
"Hi Sannie!" She cheered. Yes, this was a date with the Choi San, but there's nothing worse, in San's opinion, than going to a fancy restaurant to a date he'll probably not enjoy. So, he was glad she dressed casually, and he wasn't going to lie, she looked good in her sundress, and sandal heels. The makeup too, looked very pretty atop her soft features, but something didn't feel right.
This wasn't what he desired.
He knew a future without loving your partner was a road he, as a child, never wanted to partake in. But as he grew up, his guilty pleasure of toying and sleeping around with every living being grew stronger, and the thought of marriage without love seemed easier. He watched his parents fall out of love with each other, and eventually divorce and move on to other people, but he never believed when his father would tell him he was in love with the new woman.
His mother loved him dearly as a kid, but ever since she lost the case at court, she never had the courage to face him, and simply slipped out of San's life for good. He didn't know how the other man treated her, or if he was still with his mother to this day, and honestly he didn't care. His mother has always been a touchy subject to him, so he tends not to think of her, almost ever.
Snapping out of it, he noticed how Jiho waved a hand in front of him with a worried face painted on her face. "San? Are you okay? You zoned out," she asked concern overtaking her. She placed a hand on his cheek, and the other on his forehead, just in case.
San quickly dropped her hand from his head, and intertwined it with his, surprisingly less painfully than usual. "I'm okay, baby. You look ravishing, that's all." He saw the blush forming across her already rosy cheeks, before he continued. "Now, are you ready to go?" She quickly nodded, and collected her purse before locking the door behind her.
"Where are we going, hm?" She asked, with a skip in her steps.
"I don't really know, since it was last minute, I thought we could just walk around and find a place together." San promised himself he'd try to enjoy this date, and treat it like any other one he's been on before. Therefore, with a smile on his face, he squeezed her hand, in which she returned with a gleeful smile.
Not so bad, afterall. Shaking that thought, San knew it was still the beginning, so he couldn't make judgments yet. He just wanted to let loose, and enjoy this time with Jiho, since he knew these moments would be rare.
Walking around the neighboring restaurants, San noticed how Jiho started getting tense as they grew closer to a particular part of town. He grew curious as the two grew closer to said part of town. Around the corner, he spotted a café that sported a beautiful view of the vast ocean behind it, and right next to it a diner. He noticed how Jiho kept stealing glances at the diner before quickly looking away, hoping San wouldn't notice, but of course he did.
"Hey, um, let's go there. It looks like a cute diner. It doesn't have a specific menu either, seems pretty nice, right?" He asked, acting as though her uneasiness wasn't something he noticed.
"I-I d-don't think so. There are b-better options closer to the coast. We should go t-there..." She tried to convince, to no avail though. When San set his mind to something, he was going to do it, no matter what others said.
"No, it's fine. It doesn't seem so bad. Come on, and it's closer to the apartment. It's perfect, let's go," San put on his best pouty face, managing to win Jiho over.
"Okay, fine," she said begrudgingly.
"Yay!" San cheered, and for once, let his inner child out. He always liked winning, but he never could show his childishness whenever he won, since it was always work based, so he had to act professionally. But today, it was a date, a place where you had to act like yourself. Not that he wanted to, he was just glad he didn't have to hide it today.
After that, the two made their way to the diner; one nervous, the other triumphant.
