The transparent doors slowly opened up as Ellie stepped inside of the Petalburg Gym taking note of her surroundings as she stepped in. She found two potted strands of bamboo by either side of the door, neatly trimmed to not obscure the entranceway, but to still instil a calming aura for whoever stepped inside. She looked ahead and found a man standing at the desk, frantically typing on a small primitive-looking computer, then looking up at Ellie, and Lucas as he walked through the door.

The man had light brown hair with darker hair fading in at the tips over his face, pale skin, and orange eyes covered up by some square glasses. He was wearing a simple grey jacket over a white t-shirt, and black trousers, with grey trainers. The only thing that stood out about him was the badge hung on his jacket, the same symbol that was hung on the front of the dojo. Ellie approached the desk, with Mudkip walking by her side, and asked the man,

"Can you see what spaces there are for gym battles today?" she asked, and the man smiled as he dashed back over to the computer. He brought up a timetable of all different slots that had been booked. Luckily, it had been a relatively quiet day so Ellie could get a match in a matter of seconds.

"We can get you into a battle right now if you would like."

"That would be great if you could!"

"Ok, just follow me into the gym room." he said as he stepped through a back door behind the desk, and a door to the sides opened shortly after. Ellie and Lucas stepped inside, to find a small dojo like room, with white blinds covering the windows, and a small battle arena in the centre, with stairs separating the trainers stand and the actual battle. But, Ellie was quite concerned by the wood that was around and looked at Torchic, then at the man,

"How does this gym protect itself against any fire types? It's all made out of wood."

"Well, there is a control for protection."

The man pulled out a remote and clicked a button, summoning a barrier around the small area, enclosing it and preventing any external damage. He then dropped the barrier and said,

"You can just try any attack against it, and it'll just nullify it instantly."

"Alright, then should we get started?"

Ellie looked at the other end, and then suddenly realised that there was a lack of a gym leader standing at the other end. She turned and spoke,

"Where's the gym leader? You said they could battle now."

"What makes you think you're not looking at the gym leader?" the man said with a sudden grin as he pulled out a Pokeball and moved to the other end of the room, standing and displaying his badge again.

"I'm the Normal type gym leader, Seijo! And I accept your challenge!"

Ellie was left slightly stunned and Lucas chuckled slightly,

"I'm surprised it took you that long to figure that out."

"Well, most gym leaders don't work the desk as well."

"Fair enough." Lucas said as he took a seat at the side of the gym, Torchic jumping off of his shoulder and staring intently at the battle. Lucas pulled out his plastic container of Pokepuffs and took a bite of one, savouring the sweet taste and the crumbly texture as the match began to kick off.

"This battle is of two Pokemon each. No items are permitted and the battle will end when either's sides Pokemon have fainted!"

"But, I don't have two Pokemon!" Ellie shouted, already panicking about how she might not even be permitted to battle. But, the gym leader just smiled and replied,
