Weathering The Storm... (A Pokemon OC Story)

Chapter 45: Weathering the Sandstorm...

Vibrava cried out suddenly, and the sand grew even greater, now being focused on the trio of Seijo, Ellie and Lucas. Lucas placed his foot firmly into the ground to stop being blown away, then slammed the Pokeball onto the ground.

"Zorua, I choose you!"

Zorua popped out of the Pokeball and immediately was faced with the lightning-fast storm trying to blow it away. But, it rolled in the air to propel itself to the ground, taking a smooth landing and standing its ground against Vibrava. Ellie followed behind and selected a random Pokemon from her bag.

"Taillow, let's win this!"

Taillow flew from the confines of its Pokeball, stubbornly looking at Ellie and then setting down on the ground with its cheeks puffed up. Then, a large piece of sandstone shot from behind Taillow, with Ellie calling,

"Look out!"

Taillow's eyes widened as it looked towards the rock and just barely managed to take flight and swerve out of the way. Now, it was ready to listen to Ellie, even if it was only temporary. Lucas decided to take the first move and shouted out,

"Let's start with Fury Swipes!"

Zorua's claws sharpened and scraped against the sand as it slashed through the air, cutting down any pieces of debris standing in its way as it pummelled towards Vibrava. Vibrava picked up even more debris to throw, then decided to go on the offensive itself. Zorua slashed through the debris easily but then found itself getting hit quite suddenly by a flap of Vibrava's tail. It smacked Zorua into the air, and then Vibrava shot up to throw Zorua to the ground with another strike. Zorua flew into the ground as a second blow struck it hard in the head. Zorua landed firmly into the golden sands, with Lucas shouting,

"Are you okay, Zorua?"

Zorua nodded as it rose, but found itself falling as one leg seemed to have taken the burden of the fall, and needed to recover. Ellie looked to Zorua and shouted,

"We'll take care of it from here, Taillow.", Ellie shouted as she began to consider what attacks Taillow actually learnt. But, only one popped into her mind, "Wing Attack!"

Taillow flapped its wings and pushed against the winds blowing it back, steadily making progress on the Vibrava. It strafed from side to side as it flew, being careful to dodge any debris flying towards it. A few scraps of rubble hit its wings, but it still battled on through the sandstorm. It tried to strike down on Vibrava with its wings but found itself being countered by Vibrava's Dragon Tail. Vibrava overpowered Taillow and sent it flying back towards where it had come from without any sort of mercy in its eyes.

Taillow scraped against the sand, crying out as it slowly and brutally came to a halt onto the sand. But, it shook off the sand from its wings and got ready to battle once again. Zorua also got up, limping slightly with one of its legs feeling severely weakened by the impact of the sand. Zorua then looked to Taillow and decided that the best thing was to hop onto Taillow's back. Taillow bore the weight and flapped its wings, bringing both of them into the air.

"Go!", Ellie and Lucas shouted in unison. Taillow pushed hard through the sandstorm, even when Vibrava got in closer to attack. Taillow threw Zorua upwards, then got struck with a Dragon Tail from Vibrava, being sent to the ground with swirls in its eyes. But now, Zorua was in a prime opportunity to attack.

"Sucker Punch!", Lucas cried as Vibrava attempted to flap at Zorua, only for Zorua's claw to sink into one of its wings. Then, Zorua pummelled Vibrava's side with one of its other claws, injuring it. But, Vibrava's eyes became even angrier, and it spun and tossed Zorua to the side. Now, both the Pokemon lay wasted on the sandy terrain of the desert, and Ellie and Lucas got ready for Round 2. But, it seemed that Vibrava had other plans. It flapped its wings and sand rose up, blocking Ellie and Lucas from seeing it. No doubt, it was attempting to retreat.
