He steps off of the stage and everyone claps for him, but I'm too busy fanning my eyes, "my makeup is really getting tested tonight," I say when he reaches me.
He pulls my into his chest and kisses my forehead, "did you like it?"
"I loved it," I admit, "I love you, Chase Hudson."
I feel him smile against my hair, "I love you too, y/n."
I thought I wouldn't like him sharing my song with the rest of the student body, but he somehow made it even more special than it already was.
I pull away from him, "I'm going to try to prevent this situation," I point to my watering eyes. "I'll be right back."
He nods in response and I head to the bathroom. As I get some paper towels to dab at my eyes, Charli comes in.
"Nice song," she says bitterly.
"Thank you," I ignore her negativity.
"You don't deserve him," she huffs when she notices I don't care what she thinks. "He can do so much better than you. I bet you haven't even put out yet, have you?"
I look at her through the mirror and she busts out laughing.
"Of course you haven't, you're such a prude!" She covers her mouth, trying to stop the laughter from escaping. "I mean, honestly, look at you. He probably doesn't even want to get in your pants."
I ignore her and throw the paper towel into the trash can.
She steps in front of me to block me from getting to the door, "you may have gotten a song, but I'm going to get a whole damn album when I'm done with him."
"Yeah, and it'll be about how you're such a bitch," I shove my way past her and head back to the gym before she can come up with a snarky come back. I hear her scream in frustration behind the bathroom door.
Chase smiles when I walk over to him, "you okay?"
"Yeah," I smile back, "I have you, so why wouldn't I be?"
A slow song starts and he bows, "may I have this dance?"
I curtsy, "you may."
He takes my hand and guides me over to the dance floor.
He rests both of his hands on my hips and I loop mine behind his neck as we sway back and forth to the music.
"I have to admit, you've made this night really special for me," I smile up at him.
"I tried," he says humbly.
"No, I'm serious," I move my right hand to caress his cheek, "there's no one else I'd rather be here with."
He sighs contentedly as his eyes flutter shut at my touch, "you're the only one I want to be with, tonight and forevermore."
I surprise myself by stretching up and kissing him, pulling his face down to mine so it's a little more comfortable. He startles a little before kissing me back, moving a hand up to the small of my back and pulling my closer to him.
"Okay, lovebirds," the principal interrupts us by putting his hands on our shoulders and pushing us away from each other, "as much as I hate to say this, we have a strict no PDA policy, so I have to kick you out." He guides us to the door we came in earlier, "you do make a really cute couple, though. It reminds me of me and my high school sweetheart." He nods his head toward the door, "have a safe night, kids."
Chase and I walk out of the gymnasium, hand in hand, and start laughing as soon as we're outside.
"Did we really just get kicked out of homecoming?" I say in between laughs.
"I think we did," Chase laughs with me.
"It was worth it though," I wink at him.
"I have to agree," he smiles at me and we walk to his car.
