The ‘talk’ was a disaster. Granted, not in the way I had imagined, but horrible non the less. I had actually had to talk to Willis and he’d been grilling me about my work with Matthew. He’d been intrigued by my choice of work in the first place, since it was quite an unusual decision to make. The clinic didn’t actually offer a lot in terms of work experience, but my priority had lain somewhere else anyway. The application of my knowledge was far more important to me. So for me, Matthew had been the obvious choice.
At least before I’d met him.
Willis had insisted I fill him in about all the things I’d looked at until now. I, on the other hand, decided to just go with the universal answer of: “Sorry Mr Willis, I can’t enclose any information about anything that happened in the clinic, it has been strictly forbidden.” Or at least it had been something along those lines. I wasn’t exactly sure what it was I’d told him. The only thing I was sure of was that I had repeated it about a thousand times before I’d left his office. He was a nosy son of a bitch. I’d never especially liked him but after the stunt he’d pulled by telling mom about this induction thing, I literally couldn’t stand him.
When I stepped out of the building, I saw him already standing by the gate. I smiled.
“I was almost expecting you to actually wear a suit.” I told him when I stood behind him.
He turned around and didn’t say anything for a second. Then he lifted his hand and moved his black tinted sun glasses from in front of his eyes to the top of his head. His fingers then softly touched along my jaw and he said in a low voice: “I told you it was an inconvenience to take off, babe.”
I took his hand in mine then, squeezing a bit but keeping it where it was on my cheek and staring into his eyes.
I almost couldn’t hold it in and it seemed he couldn’t either since he suddenly doubled over, laughing his ass off. It set me off as well and soon we were sitting side by side on the ground, leaning against the wall surrounding the university.
“That was so creepy, mate!” He announced after a few seconds of silence.
“Way too creepy.” I agreed.
“So, where’d you wanna go?” He asked, looking at me sideways.
“Dunno. Let’s just walk and see where we get to.” I tried. It was literally the only thing I could come up with.
“Sure thing, let’s go then, darling.” I chuckled. You just had to love Oliver.
We strolled along the sidewalk for a few minutes, mindlessly teasing each other with silly names and meaningless insults.
“So how was your talk?” I rolled my eyes at his question, I couldn’t even stop it.
“This bad then, huh?” He grinned. He seemed to enjoy my misery.
“Well he was way to interested, man. He pressed me for every single detail of what I do. Almost as if he was just waiting for a chance to interrogate me.”
“Who knows, maybe he just finds you very interesting.” Oliver answered with a suggestive smirk.
“Shut up!” I said and lightly shoved my palm to the side of this face.
“So why did you want to meet up?” He suddenly sounded far less joking that before. Great, now he could even figure me out over the phone. This was getting better and better.
“No particular reason.”, I shrugged, hoping I looked casual enough.
“Your lying sucks.” Apparently not.
