In the morning I still couldn't muster up the courage to talk to my parents. So I listened for both of their cars leaving before I slowly made my way to the kitchen. I put together a small breakfast, trying to distract myself from the fact that my pile of problems had just got higher last night.
Only when I put dishwashing soap into a pan to make some scrambled eggs did I realise that I wasn't in a mindset to create anything, even if it was just an easy breakfast. I sighed and put the remainder of my failed attempt at cooking into the bin.
It was Monday, so I had lectures soon. I still wasn't a fan of masses of people, but uni was something I had to attend. There was no way I was going to throw away uni, especially after having worked so hard to be able to go again.
So I quickly ran around my room, gathering all the books I needed, as well as my laptop, before dashing out of the house - where I stopped immediately.
In front of me stood none other than Sam, Matthew's twin sister.
But she wasn't looking at me. Instead, her whole attention was on something down the street. Frowning, I walked towards her and curiously peeked past her slender form. Just rounding the corner was a tall man, shoulder length, raven coloured hair and buff shoulders.
"You fancy him?" I asked after a couple of minutes just looking at her awe-struck expression.
"Huh?" She cast me a confused look, as if she didn't know why I'd be here.
"I live here, you know?" One of my eyebrows lifted and I had to hold back an amused smirk.
"Oh! Fancy meeting you here then!" Her grin and wink made me laugh out loud. The girl at least had some humour.
"It's been ages since we've last seen each other!" she then added.
I rolled my eyes at that. "It's been ages since we've first seen each other, you know? It's not like we've met since then."
"True that." She shrugged carelessly, seemingly dropping the topic.
"Well, let's go then." She announced and started off down the street.
"Sam? Where the hell are you going?" I asked her, my eyebrow still raised and not having moved an inch.
"We are going to get breakfast. Now get a move on, I don't have all day!" She had stopped and stood in front of me now, her hands on her hips as if to scold me.
"I have uni, you know." I tried to remind her, or tell her, since I doubted she knew much about me anyway.
"Oh I know. Now come on." She came back to me, and lightly tapped her foot, repeatedly gesturing to where she was originally headed.
"I really need to go to uni though." I tried to reason with her, a frustrated sigh leaving my lips in the process.
"What you need to do is get breakfast with me. No buts." And with that she turned around for the second time, clearly expecting me to follow. I waited for a minute, hoping that she would stop and give in, but no such luck. She just kept going in her confident stride, knowing exactly that I would never leave anyone hanging. How she figured out I was this kind of person I could only guess. I sighed again and then ran towards her, catching up so I wouldn't lose her.
The cafe she brought me to was a neat little bakery, specialising in cupcakes. The interior was small, only fitted for about four tables, but the space was very smartly managed. All the tables and chairs were a different style and there was even a sofa in one corner, where you would be facing the one giant window wall. There were different wallpapers up on every wall, and with the various little touches on every table, the whole room seemed like an expedition to cutesy-vintage-land.
