Matthew had said he wanted to distract me, so we would go on a date. He'd pointed out that we'd never been on a proper one before, so we should change that.

That was the day after Citty came by with the letter. Now, it was another day later.

He pulled me along the corridor slowly, showing me yet another part of the house I'd never been to. There had never been an opportunity for a proper look around.

We stopped at plain looking double doors and Matthew turned to me with an excited glint in his eyes.

"This is it."

He gestured for me to open the doors myself, so I let go of his hands and gently pushed them open.

My eyes widened at the room in front of me. When I didn't move, Matthew hugged me from behind, his head loosely on my shoulder.

"How do you like it?"

I could only nod, too stunned with what I saw to verbally answer.

In front of me was a winter garden. I didn't know much about plants, but the room was full to the brim with plants of all forms, sizes and most of all colours. They were neat and lush and I could tell they were well cared for.

The room seemed so alive, it felt almost surreal to think it was inside, rather than me stepping into a forest.

The ceiling was maybe the most breathtaking part. It looked like an open birdcage at first glance, but was actually made up of random looking pieces of glass. They were all different shaped and sized pieces, jacked and irregular, put together like puzzle pieces to fill in the gaps between the bars. Just tilting my head made the sun filter through differently, creating different colour patterns. It was absolutely beautiful.

"It was my grandmother's. She wasn't a very nice lady and never let anyone inside here. She used to care for it all on her own. But she'd taught Sam everything she knew, so now Sam takes care of it." Matthew explained, probably realising how I still could not find any words.

"Let's go." he then said, grabbing my hand and pulling me with him. I didn't resist at all, even though I could have stood there looking at it all day. I just let him drag me through the room, taking in as much as I could.

The room wasn't as large as it first seemed, but still a considerable size and it seemed like Matthew knew his way around exactly. There were so many paths to take, some smaller and some a bit more obvious.

He led me to a waterfall, next to which there was a small cave-like indent in the stone wall. Inside, there was the most classic and cliched picnic ever imaginable. And it made me laugh. It made me laugh so hard that I had to hold myself up on the wall to not fall over.

"I figured if we're going on a date, we might as well make it a sickly sweet date-date, right?" Matthew grinned.

I hugged him and gentle pecked his lips.

"Thank you." I said sincerely.

The food was great. We just sat there and ate, sometimes throwing grapes at each other. We were laughing. It felt as if we were any other odd couple on a date, having fun and just enjoying their time together.

I knew exactly that was what he was going for and it worked.

He wanted to make me laugh, to make me happy, and it worked. For the short hours we spent on the date, I forgot all about my nightmares and panic attacks. It was just him and me.

"Let's go swimming!" he said as he pulled me up from my sitting position. I looked at him like I would at a madman as he started pulling his clothes off.
