That day was also the day I suddenly became curious.
"Matthew." I called out to him while he was in the bathroom, doing his morning routine. It was almost lunch time but we had spent all morning in bed, talking about stuff that was serious and stuff that was less so.
"Mhm.", he mumbled, probably brushing his teeth. I heard rustling and him moving stuff.
"Does it feel good to be bitten?" All sounds stopped from the bathroom.
The question had been on my mind for a long time now. Citty had mentioned it before too and somehow, I had started to want to believe that maybe what I had seen between Citty and Collin hadn't been that bad.
Then, all of a sudden, I heard water running and half a minute later, Matthew appeared in the doorway, wearing nothing but sweats. Any other time, I would have been drooling over him, even if I had seen him like this constantly during the last few days. But now, I really only wanted an answer. I wanted to know if, somehow, there was a way for me to forgive.
"That depends." He said finally, sitting down in front of me to look me straight in the eye. I could tell he was trying to gauge my reaction to what he was saying since he knew how delicate this subject was.
"How come? Is it because of Citty and Collin?"
I only nodded, waiting for him to continue.
"Do you want the nice answer or the honest one?" was his question after hesitating for a bit. I swallowed. This shouldn't have been so hard to answer. Of course I wanted the honest one, but I also somehow wanted to be fooled into believing that everything was just fine.
"The honest one." I finally said.
He scooted closer then, so that our knees were touching and he could grab my hands between his, holding them and slightly massaging them as well.
"The honest answer is that whether or not a bite is pleasurable or painful or anything in between really, depends on intention, skill and control of the vampire."
His brows furrowed as he paused a moment, trying to form his words properly. So far, I was alright with what he was telling me, but I could tell where this was going and I wasn't sure I really wanted to hear that part.
"What I mean by those is that there are areas on the human body that will hurt when bitten, no matter how skilled or unskilled you are, so if you do intent to harm someone, the easiest is to find one of these places. When I say skill I mean the knowledge of how deep, how long and at which angle one should bite. Are you alright?", he interrupted himself as he noticed my body stilling. It wasn't necessarily fear, just this feeling of something completely unknown happening and not knowing how to deal with it had me close to panicking.
It took a while of Matthew soothing me before I told him to continue. I had chosen to know, so I would sit through this.
"Lastly, control is important. Now what I mean by this is not what you would probably think. It's not that we get blood crazy once we taste. It's more that if you aren't in a good physical or mental condition, you might not have enough control to exercise enough caution. That being said, it doesn't mean that just because the vampire doesn't have any control it will hurt. It is entirely possible that they get a spot that isn't painful. I'm sorry."
He pulled me into his lap so that I was straddling him and hugged me to his body.
"I went too far with that. I apologise."
I hugged him back. It wasn't as bad as he thought it was. Hearing it wasn't exactly pleasant but I was more or less alright. I had also figured out what he had been trying to tell me by explaining all this.
