It's nice where I live now. I can't tell you much, but there's a lot of culture here, a lot of different people and it's nice. It's nice to have a chance of scenery, you know? I wish you could have that feeling too, to just let go because you're part of something new now.
It's a bit of a maze though. Trying to find your way anywhere is very much an impossibility unless you actually know where you're going. It's a funny thing really. I learnt so much about this place by just getting lost.
I want to share this with you. So bad.
What woke me up was whispering and something brushing my arm.
I blinked my eyes open, slowly trying to adjust to the light the glass ceiling let in. When I could focus my vision a bit more, I noticed two boys standing in front of me, having a whispered conversation about stealing my bag. Immediately, my hand grasped the soft fabric of the duffel and I let out a relieved breath to still find it with me.
At this point I didn't really care. I wasn't really mad either. The only thing I couldn't decide on was whether to find it funny that the two boys still hadn't noticed how awake I really was or to have pity on them for having to even consider stealing.
I cleared my throat to get their attention, but only one set of eyes moved over to mine and widened. The boy that had his back to me was still animatedly, but quietly, trying to convince him how good a chance this was.
He only shut up once the other boy was frantically shaking his head and pointing straight at me.
Ten minutes later I had sat them down with a hot chocolate in front of each of them. Both had yet to even touch it though.
"What's your names?" I asked them after a short while.
They were obviously brothers, I guessed, maybe a couple of years apart.
"I'm Jesse and that's Caleb. He's my brother!" the smaller one eventually answered, his face lighting up in pride at the second part. I smiled a little. It was cute. He couldn't be more than eight or nine years old.
His brother Caleb however didn't necessarily like the fact that he so openly gave their names away and shot him a warning glare.
"Don't worry, I won't do anything to you. I'm here for something and I don't have time to get side tracked anyway." I tried to reassure them but while Jesse was obviously alright with me already, all my efforts were lost on Caleb. I sighed.
"Alright then, I'll leave the two of you to it." I said eventually. There was no use in wasting my time here. I couldn't help them and staying would only make my guilt for not doing anything worse.
I only got about half way thought he cafe before Caleb called out to me to stop with a rather unfriendly "Wait!".
I did turn around, curious to see what it was that finally made him actually talk to me.
"Here."
The older boy shoved two large paper cups in my hands and it took me a second to interpret them together with the stubborn look in his eyes. Of course they were the hot chocolates neither of them had touched.
"They're yours. I got them for you. Be grateful and just take them okay?" I asked while reaching down to give them back to him.
"No!" He declined and crossed his arms in front of his chest, trying to intimidate me with his angry look.
"Why not?"
He hesitated then, only to answer me a few seconds later.
"We don't want charity."
