Matthew's parents never came back to the room, which surprised me a great deal considering Matthew's weird proposition. I also hadn't mentioned my doubts about that to Matthew at all.

We were heading back to his room, taking our time. We didn't talk, but only held hands. It was almost serene.

But then I heard footsteps behind us, rushing to catch up and becoming louder by the second. After a while, we heard someone calling Matthew's name as well and we stopped.

When I saw someone I didn't know come around the corner, I instinctively took a step back and to the right, putting Matthew's body between me and the stranger. I could still see him, but I felt safer nonetheless.

He wasn't at all exhausted when he stopped a few feet in front of us, bowing just slightly to show servitude towards Matthew.

That, I had never understood. They treat their coven like family, but all of them had to show an insane amount of respect to the head and the head's family.

"What is it, Ramon?" Matthew asked.

I had registered how he always said names when talking about the coven. There was never any mention of 'that guy', it was always names. It was astonishing to know he knew all of them, despite not seeing them a lot at all.

"Your sister sent me. The humans are coming towards the house. They're armed and it looks like they plan to strategically raid the place." Ramon stated quickly.

Matthew's hold on my hand tightened.

"What else did she say?"

Ramon hesitated for a second, then nodded to me.

"She said they probably want him, considering the earlier confrontation." I had no clue how Sam knew about that since it had literally not even been an hour, but I couldn't concern myself with that now. My mother's co-worker had said that I would come home and I was guessing he was intending on doing that himself now.

"How long?" Matthew asked again, with a voice fuelled with pure anger.

"I do not know their precise location, but I image you won't have long."

"Alright, thank you Ramon. You should get out of the house or stay in your quarters to be on the safe side."

Ramon bowed again before quickly walking away.

"You need to leave." Matthew then addressed me, while he pulled me with him, forcing me to match his hurried footsteps towards his room.

"Why not we?" Frankly, that was probably the only thing that actually registered in my mind. He told me to leave, not us.

"Because they will expect me to go with you. I will stay here and we will let them look for you. They will be confused when you're not here."

"Okay, right," I nodded in concentration, I could survive a few hours without him, hopefully, "Then I'll be back tomorrow again."

Matthew hesitated, but he didn't get to answer as we arrived at his room. He helped me pack of few clothes, most of which were some of his stuff I had been living in, and my sketchbook he had kept for me even when I had rejected it for so long.

He grabbed my most trusted duffel bag and dragged me out of the room again.

Once we were back in the hallway, taking turns that seemed far too complicated to be necessary, I started hearing a lot of angry screaming in the distance, echoing through the many halls and scaring me into quickening my pace.
