Half an hour later, Citty had calmed down and was sitting next to me on the sofa, taking what probably was her first good look around the room. Jamie had left to do whatever, so it was just the two of us here now.

"That guy is so weird." she said. I chuckle just a bit at that, because weird was probably the understatement of the century when describing Jamie.

"He's a good guy. I've come here a lot before it all went to complete shit. Not just to get my tattoos really, just kind of to get away. He's like Matthew so somehow, in some weird, twisted way, I felt closer to him when I was here."

She didn't say anything to that at all, lost in her own thoughts, and after looking at her for a bit, I realised for the first time, that she too had just had to leave her loved one behind to come with me. She wouldn't be able to go back either, nor would Collin be able to come out and see her.

I wasn't the only one that was suffering and that was going to suffer. It was a weird realisation to come to when I'd not had any contact at all with anyone other than Matthew for so long. It felt weird not being the most vulnerable again. I also didn't have Matthew, so I had no way to protect myself from my nightmares and hallucinations. I felt stranded. How would I survive even a single night without him, let alone however many days I wouldn't be able to see him?

"Right, children, want some food?"

Jamie held some sandwiches out for each of us to take. I accepted it gladly, but felt sick the moment I took the first bite. I put it down while I slowly chewed not the little food in my mouth, willing it to go down and stay there, and even once I swallowed, I couldn't bring myself to take another bite.

"Eat." Jamie ordered sternly, looking at me and daring me to oppose him. Jamie wasn't really scary to me anymore, but something in the way his eyes held mine made me want to submit to this order. So once I couldn't physically carry on staring at him, I dropped my eyes with a sigh and forced another small bite of the sandwich down my throat.

"You don't have any new work." I quietly remarked after that second bite. I was interested, but I mainly asked to distract him from me not eating.

"It's been harder getting people here with the humans thinking they are more powerful than us. Seems everyone decided to forget about poor old Jamie here." he flicked his tongue and it made a metallic sound when his piercing hit his teeth, "But you know you can keep me company whenever you'd like." He winked at me while he said, but I was used to it and I knew there was absolutely no truth behind it at all.

"How did you even get through that much time without anyone to harass?", I asked, more as a sarcastic remark really, but he just grinned at me with his wicked trademark grin.

"I've had my good share of someone to harass, don't you worry your sweet little ass about me." Even knowing him so well, I still felt a slight worry for whoever that person was, but what was there to say really. Jamie was a character, once you knew how to deal with him, it was your own choice to stick around or not.

"Thanks for the food." Citty mumbled into the following silence. Jamie just waved her off, sent me a glare for not having had any more of the sandwich and then left o throw his own left overs into the bin.

"Here's the plan." he started once he came back, "You're to stay here for the night, then I'll go do some scouting for you to see how safe it is. Once I deem it safe enough, the two of you beautiful creatures will leave this place and go somewhere that's supposedly a lot safer."

Those two minutes that it took him to explain that were probably the most serious I'd ever seen Jamie, but as soon as he'd finished his body slumped completely and he went back to the never serious Jamie.
