Sanity

"That's it? Wala man lang exciting na nangyari?" Hershey asked before taking a sip of coffee.

"Coward," bulong ni Barrett pero narinig ko naman.

Inirapan ko sila. Kanina pa nila ako pinagtutulungan. This is not the hang out I expected with them. Kung alam ko lang ay sana hindi ko na sila niyaya lumabas.

"I'm just not really that brave when it comes to him."

"Alam namin." They chuckled. Kung asarin nila ako ay parang matagal na silang magkaibigan.

"Bakit ba kayo pang dalawa ang free ngayon? Pwede namang si Sap or Prim. More decent friends." I rolled my eyes.

"We're just saying you could step up your ways to win him back," si Barrett.

"Step up like what? Maghubad sa harap niya?"

Matalim akong hinarap ni Barrett at umiling-iling na parang disappointed. I chuckled, he's taking it seriously!

"Decent ways," aniya.

Humalakhak si Hershey, dahilan para sabay namin siyang lingunin.

"Bakit kaya hindi nalang kayo? Para wala nang problema. Pareho naman kayong single."

"Fuck you," sabay naming sagot ni Barrett kaya mas lalo siyang humagalpak.

"See? Bagay kayo."

"Kadiri, masiyado siyang malandi for me," I said while wincing.

"Mas okay."

"Shut up, bitch."

"Chant's right, we're better off as friends and I don't like her anymore. Kung alam ko lang na masama ang ugali niya ay hindi ko siya magugustuhan." My eyes grew wider from irritation.

"What the heck, Barrett!"

"Sorry, babe!" He laughed na nagpairap sa akin.

"I'm just trying to tease you, guys. I know naman kung gaano kabaliw si Chant sa ex niya," wika ni Hershey na hindi ko nagawang itanggi. She knows, they know, and yes, I fucking know.

Our conversation about me ended and was replaced with Barrett's. Hershey kept asking Barrett about his profession, our friendship, and our lives in New York.

"So you were supposed to be paired with Chant? Mabuti nalang pala at nagbago na ang mga magulang mo, bitch! Nako! Sobrang stressed ko sa kanila dati!"

Napangisi ako. "I'm glad, too. I don't really want to marry someone I don't love. I don't want a failed and messy marriage."

"You think it will be a failed and messy marriage if it's me you're gonna marry?" Tanong ni Barrett.

"I don't think it will be messy but there will be no romantic love. I don't want that."

"Agree, though I think we will be a cool husband and wife," he smirked. That's what I think, too. Pero hindi naman siya ang gusto kong maging asawa.

After our coffee date, nagpaalam na ako sa kanila dahil may plano akong magworkout ngayon and I want to have some rest before that.

"Can I join you?" Barrett asked after Hershey's car drove off.

"And interrupt my plans with Sage?"

"You're not even sure you'll see him."

"What if I do? Besides, don't you have somewhere else to go?"

"You know this is my first time here. You think I have somewhere else to go besides with you?"
