Tomorrow would be Friday, Armin's birthday, and I was excited. I'd thought out a few ideas but my mind was set on one. I was planning on taking him to my time. We could skip lunch and go out to a restaurant there. We could walk around and buy some stuff. We could go sightseeing. I know sounds like a cheesy first date but he hadn't seen even the slightest bit of my world. I thought he'd like exploring outside those walls and away from the chaos of the titans. If he didn't like it that would be a shame. I hoped he'd enjoy it instead of thinking of it as my way of showing off. It was only a few hours away until it was officially his birthday. It was around 10 pm, then, and I couldn't wait to surprise him. He probably hadn't had a birthday celebration before, I thought.

I woke up to the sound of a somewhat loud morning breeze. The birds were migrating around that time of year. It was frigid. There was probably even frost covering the grass outside the cabin. I turned over eagerly to look at Armin, one year older than before. I pulled up his bangs with my left hand and kissed his forehead, keeping my head there. He woke up and I could feel his eyelashes brush against my chin. Moving back, I looked at him, smiling. "Morning," I said sweetly. "Good morning," he grumbled tiredly. "How'd you sleep?" I whispered.

"I slept alright. And you?"

"I slept pretty well, also, happy birthday."

"Oh, I forgot. Thank you."

"I have some stuff I'd like to do with you today, you think you're up for it?" I asked. "Sure, but you really didn't have to plan anything for me. It's just a birthday. That's too kind of you," he said softly. "Your birthday is exactly why we should celebrate, Armin. This was when you were born into this world and that's something to celebrate. After all, you wouldn't be here if it weren't for your birthday," I explained. Armin hummed in agreement and closed his eyes. I ran my fingers through his forelock-like bangs and he looked up, watching my hand. "You're such a pretty boy," I told him, smiling softly.

"You know that's weird to say to a boy, right? Pretty is something you call a girl."

"No, pretty is just another word for attractive. It's more specific, I think. Because if I just said 'you're attractive' you wouldn't know what kind I meant. I like you're pretty-attractive. You have kind eyes and soft features, all of which are my type. Consider it a compliment," I explained.

"Oh, t-thanks then. I think you're beautiful Y/N."

He looked away to avoid any awkward eye contact. He was so bashful and I thought that was adorable.

"Thank you," I said, "you're really sweet, you know."

"Thanks, uh, you are too."

All of a sudden, the bell rang. "I think that was the second bell," I said. "Five more minutes?" he asked in a pleading tone. "Ten," I replied. I snuggled up to his warm little frame. Just remembering what life was like even a month or two ago was unbelievable compared to then. I was so happy I approached him the day we met. If I didn't, I would have never met the at that time possible love of my life. I guess it was fate if that's real. I couldn't see myself being with anyone besides him. "Armin, I love you. Thank you for being in my life," I said.

"U-Uh... I, um, I love you too. You mean a lot to me."

I moved up a bit so that I was face to face with him. "Y/N, I really wanna kiss you right now," he told me. "Then kiss me," I instructed. He quickly positioned his mouth over mine and hovered there hesitantly for a second. Right as I thought he'd given up on the idea, I was bombarded with the warm sensation of human touch. He kissed me passionately, something I wouldn't expect such a timid guy to do. He soon removed himself from my lips and took a moment to gain some composure. "H-How was that?" he asked me nervously. "You're a great kisser," I assured him.

"R-really. You think so?"

"I know so."

I snickered and smiled at him.

"Let's get ready okay?"

"Fine."

I sat up and crawled over his lap, jumping hard on the wooden deck below. "The floor is so cold," I whined. "Then come back here," he said, flirtily. "No, we actually have to get ready. We can't skip classes," I responded. I yanked at his arm, signaling that I wanted him to get up and out of bed.

"Do I have to? I mean, you said having a birthday was special. Wouldn't that include changing things up for the day? Can't we just stay in bed for the rest of the day?"

"It is special. Get up or we won't get to do all of the fun things I've planned."

"Fine," he groaned. He slipped out of bed and put on his shoes. I threw him a grey sweatshirt of mine to replace the shirt he was still wearing from yesterday. He unbuttoned his blouse and lay it on the bed, exposing his bare torso. He had such beautiful, porcelain skin. It looked soft to the touch, even from a distance. "You know, Y/N, I feel really comfortable around you. You're a nice person to be around," he told me.

"That was really sweet of you to say. You are too and I'm glad you feel comfortable around me."

He pulled over the grey sweatshirt and stood there waiting for me. I pulled off my sweatshirt leaving myself in my tank top alone. Taking out a reddish sweater, I pulled it over myself. "Let's go," I instructed. I threw on a pair of Birkenstock sandals and ran out the door. I grabbed his arm and nuzzled my head into his shoulder. "Happy birthday, Armin," I said sweetly. He laughed a bit. "You've already said that," he informed me.

"Well, I don't want you to forget."

"Alright, alright."

The two of us walked closely, through the forest trails. I heard a whistling sound coming from behind us. I turned around and saw Eren walking down the hill, pointing at Armin and I. "What is it now?" Armin yelled back at him. "Looks like someone's having a better morning than others, right Armin?" Eren screamed back. I could tell Armin was aggravated. "Eren, stop. Don't bother him on his birthday," I said sternly. "Birthday. Shit, ha, I totally forgot. Sorry, buddy," he replied casually. I scowled at him and he rolled his eyes. Soon enough he'd be attacked by Mikasa so he wouldn't be bothering us anymore, I assumed. We walked in and got some of the same bland food we'd always had. Both of us ate breakfast together, just like any other ordinary day would have started. I remembered sitting alone at this table. It felt nice to have a companion there with me. I don't know how I ever convinced myself that being alone was alright.

After breakfast came the dreadful lessons from the Commander. Of course, the Commander over-exaggerated everything, as per usual. I managed to stay sane by daydreaming, living in my own little world inside of my head. The bell rang, indicating that it was the beginning of lunch. I stood up and yanked Armin's arm. He looked at me, startled. "Let's go, come on!" I yelled with excitement.

"Why're you so eager for lunch? It's not like it's changed or anything."

"We're having it in my time so we should get a move on."

"Really?" he exclaimed, "okay!" He stood up with a huge smile on his face and ran after me, through the door. "What are we gonna have? I'm so excited to try new things. Are there new types of food? Does bread still exist? What about oatmeal?" he asked. I laughed and he looked confused. I ran with him through some trees so we were out of sight from the other trainees. Once I drew a portal, I grabbed his hand. "You ready?" I asked him. "Yes!" he exclaimed. His smile was precious. He looked like he was truly happy and I was so glad he was enjoying himself. I yanked his hand and pulled him through, ending up inside of my house. We walked through the halls, kicking our shoes off at the front door. There was a note on the kitchen table. It read:

Y/N,

The rest of the family and I are out on a small vacation and we're coming back on Monday.

Love,

Dad

Thanks for excluding me from yet another trip, I thought, rolling my eyes in frustration. It felt like they never considered me a part of the family. "Y/N, are we going?" Armin asked, interrupting my wallowing. "Yeah, just let me get some money," I replied. I ran down to my room and grabbed my wallet, car keys, and purse, slinging the purse over my shoulder. I ran back up the stairs to Armin and stood before him. "Ready," I said eagerly.
