Chapter 20

A bungalow stood tall among the woods outside the city of Beijing. The house was decorated for a grand party. Golden lights lit up the white walls of the house and laughter echoed in it. The right side of the bungalow was a grass field that was large as a golf field. There were tables here and there with different meals and courses for everybody.

About a hundred people were present there all dressed eloquently. Most of them were middle-aged people and some were old. They were all chatting in small groups happily, sipping wine or some other drinks.

Inside the house was not crowded yet the mood was same. All were in a celebration mood. Grabbing everyone's attention a man in his early 50 walked down the grand stairs followed by some men.

"Sir is here." Everybody beamed at the man who was walking down the stairs.

His hair was all black but still, his age was somehow evident. All bowed in respect welcoming him.

"My dear people. I'm forever grateful to you all who came to wish me my birthday. I hope I can return all this love and respect you have for me. As I'm a year older today, it feels like my life is indeed short to repay you all. I just hope to serve you all till my last breath. That's my wish for today too." The man addressed everyone who gathered here.

"President, don't talk inauspiciously, at least not today." A man in his forties said whiningly making others and the president chuckle.

"Okay Okay," President said happily.

By then a trolly was pulled towards the center of the hall. A three-layered vanilla cake was on top of it decorated with lit candles.

"Finally, the cake is here. President, cut it. I'm starving." A lady of the same age said lifting up the mood again.

"Alright. I never thought you are this impatient. Madam Xu, I'll give you the first piece, okay?" The president said taking the knife from a man's hand.

"Woah. Am I that fortunate?" Madam Xu jumped little in happiness. "President is always considerate."

Madam Xu walked near the president while others also gathered around it. As the president cut the cake the birthday song echoed in the hall. Everyone clapped their hands when the president handed the first piece in a paper plate to Madam Xu. Then one by one the president himself distributed the cake.

"Look at him still doing it. This is my third time attending President's birthday party. The first cake will always be distributed by himself." One man said to a lady who had her hands wrapped around the other arm.

"It's my third time too. You forgot we come together, darling?"

"Ha-ha... Yes, yes... the previous year you stole the first piece. I remember." Both laughed then joined the others to the party.

The party was still going on late at night. After all, it was the birthday of the president of the country. While everyone was happily celebrating, another part of the wood was silent. A burndown house stood deep in the woods hidden from any human eyes. The yellow lamps barely lit the rooms. Men were guarding the doors and inside the one good room sat a man.

"The party is still going on?" The man asked.

"Yes, sir." Answered one of the guards.

The man scoffed hearing it. "Let him celebrate, I don't think he will be alive to celebrate it next year." He said grinning evilly.
