You sighed as you pulled at your clothes. The last place you wanted to be was at a Lockwood party. This between you and Tyler had gotten more than awkward over the last few days. But Bonnie needed something from them and Tyler had refused to hand it over. So you were here at the Lockwood Christmas ball to serve as a distraction.

It worked almost perfectly. You attended, dressed by Stefan and Caroline. When you walked in the room everyone looked your way, smiling and looking you over. They must have done a good job dressing you because Tyler's jaw almost dropped off his head when he saw you. He blinked for a few moments and then collected himself and walked over to you.

"Hugs, wishes, and mistletoe kisses." You said as a greeting to Tyler as he took you to one side.

He led the way into a side room. It looked to be a small office. Which was odd. You'd interned for his mother and had, whatever it was, with Tyler so you knew the house fairly well but you hadn't noticed this office before. There was a desk with papers and old books taking up one side of the old office. The rest of the room was filled with some bookshelves, all full, and an old looking chair. Tyler leant against the desk with his back to the door.

"Are you here alone?" He asked curiously. For a moment you worried that he knew your grand entrance, dressed to the nines, was a ploy to draw everyone's attention from a side door where everyone snuck in.

"I um..." You said nervously.

"I mean. You're all dressed up and it's not for me. So... I just figured." Tyler said quickly. You nodded and then shook your head.

"Nope. I'm just here to enjoy myself with fancy food and decent champagne." You insisted. Tyler nodded as if he believed you, which you were grateful for because you saw Elena tiptoeing past the door.

"Well... I guess this would be the place to do that." Tyler muttered. The air was thick with awkwardness and your eyes widened a little as Damon and Bonnie popped their heads round the door and motioned for you to keep him talking. Damon was gesturing violently at a book that was sitting on the desk. You tilted your head with a jerk and they vanished from sight. You walked around the room so you could casually lean against the desk and knock everything over. You gasped and pretended it was an accident but gave the book a sharp kick and it slid out into the hall.

"Let me help you clean this up." You insisted.

"No. It's fine. It was an accident. I should let you get back to the party." Tyler said quickly. You gave him an awkward laugh and a sigh. As you stepped backwards out of the room you saw Bonnie and Damon hurrying out of the hallway with the book. You made sure to go the other way and cough Stefan's eye among the crowd and nodded to let him know that the book had been retrieved.
