Don't ruin the special day. You kept repeating in your mind. Over and over until it was all that you could focus on. At least almost all you could focus on.

You had tried to explain to your friend that you liked Tyler. That You and Tyler had been friends for years and you weren't sure if you were ready to change the relationship. Confessing how you felt might mean losing him. The next thing you knew she was dating him. You told Caroline and Elena when they noticed that you were acting strange. Eventually Bonnie found out, who told Damon and then everyone knew. Sides were taken and lines were drawn out like some sort of battle. You'd all been invited over for dinner. A barbecue at your friend's house seeing as the weather had gotten warmer in the last few weeks. Try as you might, you couldn't cope. Every time Tyler looked at you your pulse raised, and your heart fluttered. Every laugh and joke felt different than it had all those years growing up together. Every time the two of you interacted your friend was quick to push herself between the two of you. Caroline had to be taken aside by Stefan when she saw you and Tyler sitting together talking and your friend promptly dumped herself in his lap.

"She knew. She knew how (Y/N) felt!" Caroline hissed and Stefan tried his best to soothe her temper and calm her down. Tyler saw the commotion of you all flocking to Caroline. Matt stayed by the barbecue and tried his best to look as if he had no clue what was going on as Jeremy hurried over to talk to Tyler about something else.

"What... what's going on with you guys?" Tyler asked nervously.

"It's nothing." Your friend said quickly.

"Nothing! Nothing. Oh, you better let me go right now!" Caroline snapped. Bonnie waved her hand through the air as if there was a bug flying around her while Damon pretended to be fighting off the bug too and Caroline became rooted to the spot. A split second of silence passed over the group. Then everyone started arguing. It was as if the pressure couldn't hold anymore and everything erupted. You sighed and tried to leave before you had to talk to Tyler but he followed you. Your friend pulled on his arm but he caught up with you on his porch. Elena and Bonnie hurried after you both.

"What is your problem? Why would you ruin our lovely day like this?" your friend seethed out furiously. Bonnie put a hand out to stop Elena who looked ready to slap your friend and sighed as your face scrunched up with anger as you held in tears.

"Because I'm in love with Tyler. I love him. That's right. I love him. I love you, Tyler." You shouted. Tyler stared at you as if he couldn't comprehend what you were saying. "I told you! I can't believe that you would... would..." You trailed off and gestured to them both.

"So you can like him and I can't?" She snapped and crossed her arms.

"Funny how you only liked him after (Y/N) confided in you. Some friend." Bonnie snapped and Elena looked as if she were trying not to laugh.

"So what? I stole him from you?" She asked in a tone of voice as if she thought you were being childish.

"I told you I was in love with Tyler. That I couldn't live without him and I was scared telling him would change everything. I just... I can't be around this." You said quietly and started to leave. Bonnie headed inside while Elena hurried after you and everyone followed you out. They took you home and tried their best to cheer you up. Eventually only Caroline, Bonnie and Elena stayed while everyone else went home.

"I can't believe you almost murdered someone for me." You said tearfully. Your head was on Elena's shoulder while Bonnie hugged you from behind and Caroline lay across your legs on your bed with an old moving playing on the tv in the corner of your room.

"I wouldn't call it murder." Caroline muttered. You all giggled and she shrugged. "We are so not friends with her anymore."

"Yeah, no way. I'm sorry she did that." Elena said quietly.

"I feel like she should have said something to you if she also liked him. You know." Bonnie added and they all agreed.

"You know he's been outside this whole time right?" Caroline said suddenly when you all fell quiet again. You all got up and peeked through your curtains at the road. You could see Stefan leaning into the window of Tyler's truck talking to him.

"Do you think he'll come to the house?" You asked.

"Want us to send him away if he does?" Elena asked. You shrugged and sighed.

"I don't know. Maybe we should talk about everything." You said quietly and they hummed and muttered that they understood.
