Don't let her in

You'd been four books into your study session. Literally surrounded by the books that were spread over your bed with your notes on your lap.

Your dorm room door burst open and bounced off the door. Tyler stormed in. He paced for a few minutes and you decided to ignore him until he calmed down. With a sigh he flopped down on your bed, giving you just enough time to pull your books out of his way. "Watch it, Lockwood! These books were expensive." You said.

"Caroline is with Klaus." He muttered as he closed his eyes and sighed.

"Oh." You said quietly. After a few moments you could tell he was holding back tears. "Ok, come on."

You hopped off the bed and found your shoes, hopping around as you slid them on and grabbed his hands. You started to heave him up and he reluctantly sat up.

"Ok, fine. What're you planning to do?" He asked reluctantly.

"Going out to have fun!" You said cheerfully. He followed you, complaining all the way. The two of you walked to the few bars that would still be open and took seats at the bar. "You know it's not the end of the world. There's other people out there."

"Wow, thank you. Comforting." He said with a bitter chuckle.

"I just mean... I know you like Caroline but after a while this won't hurt as much." You offered hopefully and he sighed, leaning his head on the bar.

"I don't know. I liked her a lot and Klaus, he is an ass and he just came along... she likes him!" Tyler complained. You gave him a sympathetic look as he groaned and pushed his head up onto his hand. Taking the drink you'd ordered for him and downing it.

"Well... we can have some fun." You said cheerfully. The night went on slowly. It dragged by as if time it'self wanted Tyler to suffer for the fun of it. You both drank a little, played pool, danced to the jukebox. Tyler slowly seemed to cheer up, though you couldn't tell if it was your company, the few girls that had barged over to flirt with you or the fact that he was drinking more than you could count.

The fun ended immediately when Klaus and Caroline walked in. Tyler stopped, mid victory dance. His face fell and when you turned you sighed. Klaus had clearly known Tyler had come here with you. Caroline knew it too. You could both see it on his face. "I'm out." Tyler said suddenly and left. He swayed a little as he walked but you were more preoccupied with glowering at Caroline as you passed her, not having the nerve to show your disapproval to Klaus.

"Tyler!" You called after him. He had stomped off up the road, hurrying back the way the two of you walked.

"I'll walk you back and then go home." Tyler muttered. He'd slowed only enough for you to catch up with him as you ran. You could see he was hurting and didn't know what to say. You both passed the road that led to your dorm room and you realised that he probably wasn't concentrating, maybe he was too snatched up in his own thoughts to slow down.

"Tyler... I.... It's..." You spluttered as you reached his door. When you opened it he sighed and sat down, clearly he had decided that he couldn't be alone.

"It sucks." He said quietly. He'd flopped down on his bed. Matt must have still been somewhere studying because his half of the room was vacant. You sat on Tyler's bed with him until he fell asleep. You wanted to get back to your dorm room and finish studying but it was late. Given that there were so many different monsters running around town you didn't think it would be safe. But you couldn't wake Tyler when he'd finally fallen asleep. A soft knock at his door made you frown and sit up. Matt would have a key to the room. "Tyler?" You heard Caroline's soft voice call out. Sliding out from Under Tyler, who had fallen asleep on your arm, you hurried to the door, opening it just enough that she could see you but the light wouldn't flood the room and wake Tyler.

"What do you want, Carolne."

"(Y/N)? Where's Tyler?" Caroline asked quickly, trying to see into the room behind you.

"He's asleep. What do you want Caroline?" You asked sharply.

"I just wanted to see how Tyler was." She said and the irritation on her face was clear.

"You wanted to see how he was after you... crushed his heart? He's bad Caroline. You'll always be the one that broke his heart and chose the guy who literally attacked his parents over him. I get that you can only get off to bad boys. But maybe next time you find one to throw yourself at. Make sure you're not taking my friends down in the process. Also, either break his heart all the way down to his soul and leave. Or don't pick an evil vampire over him!" You hissed. Your voice had pitched a little as you spoke and you were sure you must have woken Tyler as you hissed at her. She glared at you for a moment before huffing and turned away.

"Wow. You totally lost it." Tyler said with a touch of amusement in his voice. He was sitting up against his headboard now. The Tv that you'd left on was still flickering the late night cartoons Tyler had wanted to watch.

"Someone had to make sure she plays fair." You said quickly as you sat back down next to him. He smiled and hugged you.

"Thanks (Y/N). I would... have just let her back in." He didn't say anything else and it had sounded suspiciously as if his voice had sort of tapered of in a tearful break.
