Sophie sighed. She was reaching the last river on the map. If this one didn't bring Keefe, none of them would.

She sat down and began the ritual. She brought out the moonlark pendant, set it in the water-filled dining goblet she had to grab from the Vacker's house, neatening and straightening her little set up until she was satisfied

"Keefe, if you can hear me." she started

"If I can be honest, I'm losing hope. I have to get Mr.Forkle back. He was like a father to me. I lost so many people to the Neverseen plague. Kenric, Calla-"

She could see each loss, playing right in front of her. She squeezed her eyes shut and took a deep breath

"I just really, really want things to be normal again"

The tears fell down her cheeks, and she made no effort to stop them.

"Sing swan, spring swan then let's fly" she let out a sniffle

"Follow the pretty bird across the sky. Call swan, fall swan, then let's rest. Tucked in the branches of your quiet nest"

She sighed and stared at the water a bit more. This was really it. Every single attempt ended up in her staring at a tiny trickle inside of a literal shipwreck. Oh, the irony. Sophie knew that later on, she would cry. After all her attempts to fix everything, to bring everyone she loved back, so she could look into her adoptive parent's eyes, to look into anyone else's eyes, and feel safe with the knowledge that this was someone she knew, not just some stranger in the last vestiges of life in the Lost Cities alongside her. She could feel the desperation setting in. Maybe there was one more riv-

She heard Silveny call out to her.

"Okay, okay, I'm comi-"

She stopped cold, because the water?

It was flying.

Just like it did the night she made the biggest mistake of her life; Trusting Alvar.

The water swirled around, and then mist shrouded the shipwreck.

Then the silhouette of a dragon appeared

Once the mist cleared, Sophie knelt into the customary bow, before getting knocked over.

And picked up into the air, upside down. 

And called a peoples.

But Sophie didn't care, she was dazed. He was a real dragon.

The thing that knocked her out of her stupor was when he said:

"Man, I am starving"
