What comes after a rainbow?
A storm.

Dream places the pack of balloons into the shopping cart. Sapnap's eyes trail down to the belongings inside of the buggy and back up to meet Dream's green eyes. "You didn't get what I told you to get" Dream sighs, running his hand through his dirty blond hair. Sapnap peeks into the shopping cart. He shrugs, "I forgot, okay? You gave me a lot to do." Dream flicks him on the forearm. "That, or you got distracted by the candy" Dream teases, smiling playfully at Sapnap. He grabs a few bags of candy for Halloween trick-or-treaters. He turns back to Sapnap.
"Go get the drinks, pick up the cake from the bakery—they're closed on Halloween for some reason. I'm just picking it up early. Oh, and get the chips. Remember double everything because we need stuff for a Halloween party and George's birthday. That's why you have the buggy" Dream lists, using his fingers to count how many tasks Sapnap has to do. Sapnap restates it in his head and nods. "I'm going to go get the helium tank and any other small things I can carry. I'l grab any Halloween decorations I find. I'll meet you at checkout" Dream informs. Sapnap nods, "Okay, meet you there."
First, Sapnap heads to the bakery. Him and Dream ordered a custom cake for George's birthday. Since George is in Florida and these are his first few months living here, Dream and Sapnap have decided to throw a party with just them and Patches to celebrate. George's party is just because it's his birthday, of course.
The baker hands Sapnap the cake gently, and he carefully sets it into the shopping cart. He thinks of his list and moves to the drinks aisle. He grabs waters, orange juice, and soda George drinks. Then, he moves to the frozen aisle to get alcohol. He grabs a few packs of their favorite alcoholic beverages, then mentally crosses it off his list.
Eventually, he makes his way to the chip aisle. He scans the shelves for Dream's favorite chips, George's, and his. When he finds them, he grabs 2 to 3 bags each and sets them into the shopping cart.
He stops by the snack + candy aisle again. Dream's rich, he has the money. It's fine. Sapnap grabs his favorite snacks for the house, though they are not on the list. He's also considerate enough to get Dream and George their snacks. He scans the rows of candy to find, searching for personal candy bars.
Sapnap hears heavy footsteps behind him, causing him to slightly tense up. He hasn't had a big fan run-in, but it does scare him at the chance of it happening. Sapnap's sure they'd only come up to him if they heard Dream's voice though, but Dream always tells him he's wrong and that Sapnap is going to have a fan base for himself.
Sapnap turns around to look at why the footsteps are heavy. It's a group of around five people, who look to be in their late teens. They walk right by him, resulting in a deep sigh to fall past his lips.
Then, they shout. "MrBeast!" the group screams, then takes off running.
It hits Sapnap like a fucking freight train.
He's been so distracted by Dream and George, he hasn't thought about Karl. Is this the way the universe is getting back at him? Was he supposed to suffer? All along, was he supposed to keep suffering for two years?
Sapnap had dropped the flower and now doesn't remember where he left off in his mind full of metaphors and fears. Was the last petal he pulled 'meant to be' or 'not meant to be?'
He thinks he's about to find out.
Sapnap pushes the shopping cart forward slowly, inching down the aisle to peek out of it. He squeezes his eyes shut as he hesitates, then he exhales sharply. No where but foreword, he reminds himself.
He opens his eyes and they quickly dart around anxiously. He doesn't see blond hair.
It's not meant to be, he picks back up again.
People slowly get ushered away from the MrBeast crew. Sapnap watches... disappointedly. He doesn't believe it.
He furrows his eyebrows and squints slightly. He tries to figure out the facial features of everyone. He can't make out Karl's. Then, he sees it. His eyes catch that bright infectious smile. He swears for a moment he can hear his giggle.
Sapnap gulps and sucks in a breath, almost causing him to choke. He needs out of here. He's going to fall apart right in front of Karl, and all Karl is going to do is sit there in confusion. Karl's happy, he's moved on. Sapnap's the one still breaking down 2 years later.
He pushes the cart harshly away from the candy aisle, away from Karl. He scans for Dream, and lets out of breath of relief when he sees him. "Dream! Dream, we need to go" he pants, "we need to go. N-now." Dream furrows his eyebrows, "Do you want to go sit in the car? I can finish here." He offers him the keys. Sapnap shakes his head, "N-no, I think I'll be okay. There's a lot anyways, you need the help with unloading and stuff."
Dream frowns slightly, "What's wrong, dude?" Sapnap rests his forearms on the shopping cart and drops his head on them. "I'll tell you in the car, maybe. Don't hold me to it" he answers. Dream nods, "Get you a drink, please. You need it, open it and we'll pay for it." Sapnap lifts his head up and looks to the left for a drink cooler. He nods at Dream and moves to get him a drink. He reaches in and grabs the first thing he can feel, sighs at the cold temperature against his hand, then turns around.
He jumps back slightly as a breath gets sucked into his lungs. Instinctively, he offers the drink—he now sees it's a white monster can—out. He stares at the can, he can't look him in the eyes.
He watches slim fingers wrap around the monster can and slide it out of Sapnap's hand. Two rings and nails painted black, orange, and purple catch his eyes. Sapnap drops his head and squeezes his eyes shut. Make this dream go away, he's tired of living it.
