Today is Dream's birthday. Therefore, Sapnap woke up at 6AM today to attempt at making a birthday cake for Dream. George woke up to pee and ran into him in the hallway, where Sapnap explained to him his plan. George couldn't fall asleep again anyways, so he decided to join him, which is why they're scurrying around like animals in the kitchen now.
"Did you take a foods class ever?" Sapnap asks George. George gapes at him, "Fuck no!" Sapnap scratches the nape of his neck. "So I assume you don't know how to make a green cake with like buttercream frosting, or whatever the fuck is tasty?" Sapnap questions, grabbing the yellow cake mix box. George squeezes his eyes closed and pinches the bridge of his nose, "No, no, I do not. Plus, I'm colorblind, I'd fail at making it green."
Sapnap sighs, squinting at the box directions. George waves his phone in the air, "But don't be alarmed, we have the internet, dumbass." Sapnap rolls his eyes.
George swipes through a list of types of frostings on his phone. He finds on he likes, "Ooh, whipped cream frosting." Sapnap looks at him with eager eyes. "If we have ingredients, make it, I don't care as long as it's homemade!" Sapnap encourages. George nods and gets the ingredients out, then begins to follow the instructions on his phone to make the frosting.
Sapnap follows the box instructions; he mixes the dry and liquids separate, combines, then searches when to put the food dye in on the internet. He puts in the right amount of green dye, then pours the mix into a cake tin. He puts it in the oven and sighs, then sits down on the couch.
George follows soon after. "Hey, the cake is going to turn out excellent. Either way, Dream will love it" George reassures. Sapnap smiles at him fondly. "Thanks, Gogs" he wipes his forehead with the back of his hand. George grimaces, "Please, wash your hands when we go to frost it." Sapnap glares at him playfully and sticks his tongue out at him. George groans, "Seriously, do you not cook a lot?" George stares at him curiously, then flips through the TV channels with the remote.
"You've lived here, what? Three months? How have you not realized I don't cook. Dream is our exquisite chef and butler" Sapnap jokes. George laughs and nods his head, "True. True." He finally finds a show for them to watch as they wait.
Eventually, the oven beeps to signal the cake is ready. Sapnap jogs into the kitchen and grabs a toothpick to test it. "Ah, so he has some common knowledge" George teases, watching him from the archway. Sapnap rolls his eyes, but a small laugh escapes past his lips. George gets the frosting from the fridge where it was chilling.
Sapnap pulls out the cake and examines it. "It looks good, Sap" George admits. Sapnap smiles at him, "Thanks." "You can do the honors" Sapnap offers, talking about frosting the cake. George grins and drops a chunk of frosting onto the cake with a rubber spatula for icing. He smoothes it around, taking small licks of what gets on his fingers, then lets Sapnap frost it as well. They stand back and stare at it, then high five and cheer to celebrate.
"Is he awake?" Sapnap questions. George shakes his head, "Probably not." Sapnap smirks, "Breakfast in bed, baby! Well, cake." George chuckles, nodding his head. Sapnap puts the cake on a tray and follows George up the stairs.
They push open the door and hurry in, grinning ear-to-ear when they see he's still asleep. They glance at each other and count quietly, then bust out into song. "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you!" they sing loudly, causing Dream to groan and wake up. He glares at them and tugs the covers over his head. "Dream" George draws out, shaking him lightly. "We have something for you" Sapnap explains.
Dream grumpily pulls his head out from under the blanket. "What is it?" he questions, then his eyes lock onto the cake. "Guys" his eyes soften and he moves to sit up. George kisses his cheek, "Sapnap did most of the work. He told me you made him a cake for his birthday and he wanted to reciprocate the caring gesture." Dream grins, "Yeah, that's true."
He motions for Sapnap to walk over. Sapnap does so and sets the tray on the bed, then lets Dream tug him down into a tight squeeze. "I love you, bro" Dream exhales softly as they hug. Sapnap smiles warmly, "I love you too, dude. Now try your cake, then we'll give you gifts!"
Dream laughs wholeheartedly. "Okay, give me some cake!" he demands, holding out his hands. George hands Sapnap the paper plates he brought upstairs, and Sapnap cuts a slice and places it on one plate. George then hands Dream the plate and a fork. Dream admires the cake and takes a bite, then hums in delight. "Tastes like cake!" he jokes, resulting in eye rolls from George and Sapnap. He laughs softly, "Okay, seriously, it's good. Thank you guys so much."
They move downstairs to the kitchen after Dream finishes his slice. "Gifts time!" George informs, running upstairs to grab his gift for Dream. Sapnap follows behind him quickly, "Okay! Dream, wait here!" Dream laughs as he watches them run away.
He loved his gifts, and he loved the rest of his birthday. Life has been good to them.
