-chapter 6-

I lay on the hard concrete ground, a mere thin, ripped cloth being all that separates me from the icy floor as the cold permeates my bones. Honestly, I think I'd have been warmer just standing all night, but on the floor I stayed, too nervous to move and alarm Sevika. I'm pretty sure exhaustion is my one and only facial expression at this point.

Before I can stop myself, my near death experiences from the day before slide into the foreground of my thoughts. Her face.. So fearless? No, it was careless. Carelessness was what had graced Jinx's face yesterday- That girl is insane. You can see it in her eyes, hear it in the tone of her voice. Even so, the intriguing blue of her eyes swims in my thoughts like the dark navy of a stormy ocean. Jinx's the kind of person you can hate and admire at the same time, and I find myself doing just that.

"Wake up, kid." A loud voice rings out, making my eyes jolt open and ripping me from my subconscious state. I lay in shock for a second before realizing it's just Sevika- is it already morning? It feels like only moments before that the woman had thrown the tattered sheet at me and instructed me to get some rest. I see her boots come into view in front of my face and can only bring myself to stare at them, sleep clawing at the corners of my vision.

"Come on, get moving. Your performance is on my ass so you better get used to early mornings and late nights." Sevika snaps, impatience clear in her tone. She lightly taps my side a few times with the toe of her boot. " Up. Now!"

I sit up slowly, my body aching in pain from every place Jinx had hit me. As soon as I attempt to use my core to help me sit up, the spot where Jinx had buried her knee in my chest begins to hurt. The gash across my cheekbone seems to have developed its own heartbeat as it throbs, sending waves of pain across my entire face. When I reach up, I feel the tenderness of the bruises gracing the space around my left eye. I look up to Sevika sluggishly, almost squinting.

"You look like shit." She muses, a hint of a laugh hidden beneath her voice.

"Sorry ma'am, just a rough time sleeping."

Sevika lets out a huff paired with a smirk. "This is gonna be fun then, isn't it?" She adds, dropping a ball of what looks to be clothes. "Get ready and be outside in three minutes. I will come in here and drag you by your ear, clothed or not, if you're even a second over three minutes. Got it?"

I swallow harshly, nodding and rising to my feet, ball of clothes in hand. With a sharp nod and one last once over of my disheveled state, she's gone.

___

A clearly frustrated Jinx sits on the edge of what looks like an oversized fan blade, kicking her legs above the void below. Why can't she get this stupid nuisance of a girl out of her head?

"She's better than you," A voice whispers from behind her, the feeling of light fingers racing across her shoulder.

She rolls her eyes, leaning her cheek into her palm. "Yeah, no. Nice try." she responds, not even giving the statement a thought. Laying back onto the metal surface of the large blade, feet still dangling, she rubs her eyes harshly. Bright blue and pink spots dance across the back of her mind, and as soon as she thinks she's free of her, two of the dots mesh together and morph into a face- the girl. She growls, eyes flying open- there's just something about her, and she can't get the stupid bitch out of her mind. Nobody has ever acted so boldly towards her and gotten away with it.

Besides being annoyed with her general existence, Jinx is incredibly intrigued by her. The way she talks doesn't shout Under City, and her fighting technique is sloppy, yet surprisingly effective. Her name.. "Ah yes, Y/N," Jinx mumbles under her breath. As weird as it seems, she looks forward to messing with her again, just to see how far she can push her. Maybe even get some answers to her questions. Where she came from, why, what her intentions are.
