sorry in advance

I'd found that the time in between Christmas and New Year's eve had always flown by quickly. But this year it had felt like I'd been thrown from one to the other. Yesterday had felt like Christmas Day, and now here I was, pulling up to the Sidemen house once again, on the last day of 2021.

This time, however, I was one of the first cars to arrive on the driveway. Noticeably, Harry's car wasn't here yet, which wasn't surprising because I'd agreed to come earlier to help Freya set up. I needed the distraction - my apartment felt increasingly lonely as I reminisced on spending so much time with Harry.

I hadn't seen him once since Christmas day. We'd exchanged presents privately in the lobby, and after that he'd said his goodbyes, leaving early with Isabella, and that was that. We'd texted - barely, but it wasn't the same as it used to be. We were both aware of that.

Seeing him tonight would be weird, for sure, but I was going to treat him like my best friend, and hopefully the awkwardness would fade away.

I was dressed up for tonight - if I thought the Christmas dinner was big, I had no idea what I was in for tonight. I'd heard about the famous parties that were held here each year, but this was my first year of actually attending one of them.

I did, however, know that I was going to be very drunk tonight, which would give me an outlet for all of the pent up confusion and frustration that had been building for a while.

I rang the doorbell and waited on the step for someone to open the door. From here, I could hear a faint sound of music coming from the house, probably coming from the living room. Through the stained glass either side of the door, I could make out a figure approaching the door, and soon enough it opened, revealing Freya on the other side.

Despite literally having seen her on Christmas, I found myself being squeezed tightly by the other girl, who rambled about missing me.

"I missed you too!" I said honestly, walking into the lobby when she let go of me. "But Christmas feels like yesterday - I don't even know what I did this week. I'm so glad we did all the shoots before Christmas...it's been nice having a break," I admit, and to my relief she agrees.

"I think it's only fair that we get a decent amount of time off around Christmas. Plus, we worked our asses off in the first half of December. It's well deserved. Also - what the fuck, you look amazing?"

I was dressed in a sleek black dress, that somehow managed to make my figure look semi decent. It hugged my waist, and followed my legs, a slit appearing on the left side, going just above my knee. It was low cut, and I had a necklace to sit on my chest.

"Thank you," I smiled, kicking off my heels, tucking them away behind the door. "I'll come back to them later. There is no way I'm wearing them whilst decorating," I point out to my best friend, following her into the living room.

"Fair enough. I'm gonna get changed later, literally couldn't be bothered to do it yet. All the guys are either asleep or doing work - I know Josh is, and the party isn't starting for another five or so hours. But we've got shit tons to do," she tells me, pointing towards several massive boxes on the floor of the room. Some were opened, and some weren't.

"These are all decorations for tonight?" I ask, my mouth dropping open.

"Yep. They ordered so much, without thinking how they'd get them up. God forbid you let them do it - it would never get done," she says sarcastically, picking up some scissors from the table and ripping open an unopened box. "I've got balloons. The helium pump is in the kitchen - do you mind taking the staircase decorations? You just need to wrap them round, shouldn't take too long," she instructs, and I nod, watching her jog out of the room, presumably to grab the pump.
