Levi's POV
I'm reading a book I found in Hanji's office when I was cleaning earlier. It's a little book but it's good practice for someone like me, who can't read.
I never had someone to teach me how to read and write, how to spell and sound out words. I never got the luxury, of having someone care about me enough to teach me.
The book is about this hungry caterpillar, who eats alot. I have always found bugs disgusting but, he reminds me of Erwin a bit.
I'm reading on my windowsill as the door opens. In fear of them seeing me, a 30 yr old man reading a kiddie book, I threw it out the window without really thinking.
I watched the book fall from the window and into the mud, never to be seen again. I sigh upset and look at the person who interrupted my book.
"Hello Captain." They say.
"What." I spat, clearly unamused.
He walked over to me and sat beside me.
"What were you doing just now?"
"None of your business!" I yell while jumping down from the windowsill.
I storm out of the office while flipping him off, mad that my book is now ruined.
Erwins POV
After Levi stormed out like a child I looked out the window, there was only a pile of mud. But, there had to be something right? I saw him throw it. I grabbed my glasses and put them on to look closer, but they fell off.
I sighed as I left Levi's office and walked to the mud pile I was staring at minutes ago.
I saw my glasses instantly, they had landed on something hard.
I picked up my glasses and, a book? A picture book? Why would he have this? I cannot see the cover because of the mud but I can tell its a picture book because of its size.
I walk back inside and into my office, slowly cleaning off my glasses.
I stare at the book, trying to figure out why Levi would have such a book. Then it hit me, how he couldnt write, how he asked for my help. I smacked my forehead for being so dumb. I clean off the cover of the book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."
I smiled slightly, my father read me this book alot when I was younger.
I swipe the mud off the pages carefully and the put clear tape on them, to protect them from the water. I wash the mud off the cover and smile at my work, its cleaner than it was before.
I go into the kitchen and place the book next to me. I grab Levi's second favorite teabag and start boiling water.
He doesnt tell people but he likes just one spoonfull of sugar, I've seen him slip it in multiple times.
(just a headcanon idk if thats true.)Once the tea is done I put in the spoonfull of sugar and slowly walk to Levi's office.
I open the door to see him slouching in his chair.
"Levi." I say, he turns his head to me slowly.
"Erwin." He glares at me then looks at my hands, his eyes widening at the book.
I walk to him and place down the book and tea on his desk.
"This is for you." I smile warmly.
"Ervy this is a picture book. I read chapter books." He says, trying to hide a smile.
"Theres no need to be embarrassed Levi, we all have to learn somehow. I know how you were raised, if you need help reading I am glad to always be there and help you." I say, carressing his cheek.
He smiles ever so slightly.
He doesnt say anything and I take that as my cue to leave.
"Thank you, Erwin."
I turn around.
"You're welcome, Levi." I reply.
He turns his lamp on and grabs the tea and book. He begins reading again, taking a sip every once in a while.
I leave the room and close the door.
Levi's POV
I stare at the book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". And I remember the day Erwin cleaned the mud off just for me.
I look out the window and frown, remembering that day.
The day he left me.
The day we fought for Wall Maria back.
The day that I lost him.
I look back at the book, and I toss it out the window.
I dont regret choosing Armin, but I miss him.
I start sobbing uncontrollably, like I did when I lost Isabel and Farlan.
"Why...did it have to be you." I choke out.
Why can't I ever be happy?
Sorry for the ending....not really tho.
