Levi's POV

It's been a few months since I left Hans. Erwin let me move in, and even though he assured me it wasn't necessary, I got a job at a cafe. I have a regular there, her name is Emma. We became friends and I looked forward to seeing her everyday. She's practically a carbon coby of me, but female. Also, she seems hella familiar to me--like I've seen her somewhere before.

We had bonded immediately, and I even built up the courage to tell her about the Hans and Erwin situation. She knows my whole story, even me and Erwin's ongoing inside joke, "must've been the wind".

One time, on my break, she came to eat with me. She said that she was getting evicted from 'too many noise complaints' and didn't know where she was supposed to live.
I told her about the apartment above mine, which was now available. She thanked me for the suggestion and we exchanged numbers.

Later that night, Emma had been calling me about the whereabouts of the apartment. I told her where it was at, and the next day she showed up so I could give her a tour.

She introduced me to her girlfriend, who expressed her gratitude with cookies. A week later, the two had begun moving in.
Because of this, I had felt like a good person. I'd been feeling amazing about myself, having helped someone in need. That was, until one day.

It was like any other day. I had just come home from work and was greeted by Erwin, who helped me with my jacket and shoes. He knows I can do it by myself but he enjoys being a "gentleman". Me and him plopped down on the couch together and subconsciously ended up cuddling.

Neither of us really knew how we ended up in this position, but I didn't wanna move out of it. And I hadn't planned to. But, Erwin had already fallen asleep when it had happened. I heard glass shatter on the wall in the apartment above mine.

I ignored it at first, just wanting to fall asleep while I lay comfortably on top of Erwin. But then I heard the voice of a girl, and it sounded like she'd been crying.

Now I'm too worried to be sleeping.

So I slowly got off of Erwin, careful to not wake him. I snuck out of the apartment and closed the door before walking over to her place. I knocked slowly, having a gnawing feeling at my stomach for some reason. I got a strange sense of deja vu as Emma swung open the door and smiled up at me brightly.

"Levi!"

"Hey Emma, you doing okay? I heard a loud noise." I asked.

She furrowed her brows and shook her head. "I think your ears are playing tricks on you." My breath hitched as I realized her sweater's hooked up to her chin.

"Thanks for caring, Lev. That's nice of you--but I have to go back in." I swallowed, hard. My heart froze at the familiarity of the sentence.

"Wish I could tell you 'bout the noise, but I didn't hear a thing."

She said, "It must've been the wind." And closed the door, leaving me alone in my terrified thoughts.

"Must've been the wind." I say as I shrug, before shutting the door on the blonde man.

"Oh no." I mutter.

"Hey, Erwin?" I ask, swallowing.

"Yeah?"

"How did you work up the courage to help me when you found out about my situation?" I rub my clammy hands against my pants.

"Well, one, you were really cute."

"Erwin." I glare playfully. He laughs a little and pushes his hair back.
