Lynn

Lynn watched as Tammi walked away. She must have been upset about the text because she didn't kiss me goodbye. Looking at the miss calls I seen that the same person called five times. I didn't recognize the number and realised that it was the same number that had texted me. Reading what seemed like an urgent text I immediately called the number. They picked up on the first ring.

"Hello?" My heart stopped a second. I knew that voice. "Lynn?"

"Dawn?"

"I thought that I had the wrong number. Maybe you changed it or something." I heard the nervousness in her voice. It was definitely a surprise hearing from her after three years.

"Lynn?" She said once I didn't respond back.

"Ah yeah it's me. It's just a surprise hearing from you and everything."

"I know. I know." There was a pause then. "Is there a chance that I can see you. Just to talk." She quickly added.

"Uhm..." I hesitated. I didn't know if that was such a good idea.

"Just for a few minutes Lynn. Five minutes is all I need. Please.” Giving in I said.

"Okay. I can meet you at the park at five thirty. Is that okay?"

"Yes. That's fine. Thank you Lynn." Once I hung up I worked like a zombie the rest of the day. I still couldn't believe Dawn had called me. Once five o'clock hit I hopped in my car and drove to the park. I wondered what could be so important that Dawn would call me after three years of not speaking. Just when I entered the park I spotted her sitting on the bench. I froze in place and stared at the woman I was once in love with. My heart sank at the sight of her. She looked completely different and not in a good way.

She looked thinner. A lot thinner. Her skin was pale even though she had a dark complexion. She also wore a scarf on top her head. Deep down I knew what was wrong but still prayed I was wrong. Once she noticed me she stood and nervously made her way toward me.

"Are you just going to continue to stare?" She said with a nervous smile. I came to but still just continued to stare.

"Dawn?" I still had to be one hundred percent sure that it was her even though I knew already.

"Hi Lynn." My eyes immediately  began tearing up. Dawn went into my arms hugging me.

"If you cry you're going to make me cry. Don't do it." Pulling away she said. "How have you been?" I was at lost of words right now.

"I've been okay. Let's go sit down." I had to have a seat more than Dawn did. After sitting I just stared at her.

"Stop staring Lynn." I blankly looked forward my hands folded on my lap.

"When...?" My voice cracked. Clearing it I tried again. "How long?"

"How long have I known that I had cancer?" I swallowed hard trying to force the tears back but failed.
"Lynn." Dawn fought back her own tears once I looked at her. "Don't cry." She whipped my tears away. "Stop okay. I've had enough of crying." I forced the tears to stop.

"Do your family know?"

"Yes but you know my family. They're in there own world."

"No one is here with you? Not even your mother?"

"She's busy. New man and everything." I suddenly grew angry.

"You have a sorry ass family."

"Tell me about it. Witch is kind of why I called you. I couldn't think of anyone but you. I ah..." She was nervously twiddling her fingers.
