The day did not turn well for Baek Sunhee as the bank rejected her business loan yet again. Frustrated, she went to cool herself down with a cup of iced Americano, writing down her other possible loan options.
A sugar daddy
A loan shark
A rich boyfr...
"Babe, I've just got him to sleep," cut Sunhee off as she took her towel. "Can't you do that later after he wakes up?" asked Sunhee as she was on her wit's end. There was still a lot of things to do and she was nowhere near done. Her hair was all over the place and she didn't think she had the time to make it look nice. Judging from the time, she could only manage a quick shower, blow dry her hair and put on her make-up.
"He's not going to wake up," said Hoseok quietly as he patted the sleeping baby in the cot. "Right, Huimang?" Hoseok's breath was caught as the baby's eyes blinked as he heard his father's voice. Luckily enough, he went back to sleep or Hoseok would never hear the end of it from Sunhee.
Jung Wook aka Huimang was born really quick. Hoseok nearly drove right into the emergency department of the hospital. Sunhee was having her contractions for quite some time. The first time she went to the hospital, the obstetrician sent her home saying Sunhee was having a false contraction as it was gone as soon as she got there. It went on for days that Sunhee couldn't really tell when it finally happened. She was shouting for Hoseok to be quick when she could feel the baby crowning immediately after she was put on the stretcher. The baby was out within seconds after Sunhee was wheeled into the delivery room before Hoseok could even make it there.
It was the 100th day of their baby's birth and they were hosting the baek-il party to commemorate the day. They hired the catering service and Sunhee baked a cake and some bread for the event. Hoseok and Sunhee moved to a much bigger house with a space big enough for them to hold a gathering with their immediate family members and friends. The room was decorated a day before with balloons and banners and all they have to do now was to get ready and wait for the guests to come. Sunhee's and Hoseok's families were already there helping and putting in last-minute details to the party.
By the time Sunhee was done with her clothes and make-up, Huimang started to fuss up again in his cot.
"I got this," Hoseok lifted the baby up and the baby calmed down instantly. "I'm your hope, you're my hope, I'm J-Hope," Hoseok cheered to Huimang. Huimang laughed gleefully at Hoseok whenever Hoseok pulled that off.
Hoseok then looked up at Sunhee telling her with her gaze that she looks wonderful.
To Sunhee, the people in front of her are her world.
Baek-il: Baek-il translates to "one hundred days" in Korean, and is a celebration of a baby's first 100 days of life. During this party, the baby's parents welcome family, friends, and neighbours to their home, serve customary dishes, and receive gifts for the baby. Traditional Korean culture places heavy emphasis on children and child-rearing, in part due to the nation's history of deadly epidemics. In traditional Korean culture, for example, only close relatives on the mother's side of the family typically see the baby before they are three months old. Thus, Baek-il is often an introduction of this new life into their extended family and the larger community.
Huimang: Huimang is the Korean word for hope. Hoseok did say that one day he wishes to name his child Huimang - I really hope that he will in the future.
So, we have reached the end of the story. I was actually holding this off because I'm not ready to say goodbye to Hoseok and Sunhee yet, but I have to make way for future story *wink wink.
