Chapter 3-Aftermath and Background

The next time that Mark woke up, it was to the sound of beeping and the smell of antiseptic. Once the fog cleared from his mind, it took him no time at all to figure out that he was in the medbay back at SM's base of operations. And Mark couldn't help but groan to himself internally; he hated being here. Mark will be the first to admit that he's not the biggest fan of doctors or anything medical; he's not scared. He'll do whatever they want him to do, but that doesn't mean he likes it. He will admit that he goes out of his way to avoid the medical bay at all costs. But it looks like he wasn't so lucky this time around. Whatever his captors did to him left enough of a mark for him to be here now. (Get it, Mark, print?) Mark just groaned to himself again.

"Aw Mark-ah, I see you're awake now, Sleeping Beauty." Taeil's voice called from overhead. Okay, so maybe his groaning was more external than he thought. "Hyung?" Mark questioned as he shifted around in the bed and opened his eyes to look at his Hyung. Taeil was leaning over the top of him with a smile on his face. Moon Taeil was the head medic of their team. He was born in 1994 and was 5 years older than Mark himself. Taeil was a beta recruited for SM when he was in high school. He had been here a couple of years longer than Mark himself had. Even though Taeil could be a little out there at times, he was still a very loving and caring person. He was a great Hyung who always tried to help out a dongsaeng in need. "Yes, Markie," Taeil answered him. "What happened?" Mark asked him.

"What's the last thing that you remember, Mark?" Taeil asked him. Mark turned his head and watched Hyung as he was taking his vitals. "Uh,.." Mark said as he tried his best to remember what happened. "I...I remember being at Empathy on the mission." He said. "And I remember spilling my drink on one of the security guards so that Taeyong-Hyung could lift the key card off of him," Mark told him. "And I remember trying to find my way back to Hyung to meet up with everyone else for the drug deal.." Mark trailed off, and then it hit him. The drug deal! "Oh my God!" Mark shouted. "The drug deal!" He said and turned to Taeil. "Hyung, what happened? Is everyone okay? Did the deal go down?" Mark asked him frantically.

Taeil paused in what he was doing and turned to regard his dongsaeng. "Mark, it's okay," Taeil said. "Everything's alright," Taeil told him. "Really?" Mark asked him. "Yes," Taeil said as he nodded his head. "Everyone's alright," Taeil told him. "The only one who had to go to the med bay was you, Markie," Taeil told him. Mark laid back in his hospital bed and relaxed a bit at the news. He was filled with relief at the information. Mark was so glad that his team was okay.

"But Hyung, how did I get here?" Mark asked him. "I don't remember anything after trying to find Taeyong-Hyung in the club." He told him. Taeil sat his clipboard down and moved to sit on the bed next to Mark. From the look on the elder's face, Mark could tell that this would be a long story. One that he may or may not want to hear about. But he was going to have to hear about it anyway. Looks like things were about to get interesting for him.

"Well," Taeil said as he started. "I know you remember it up until you and Yong were separated," Taeil told him. "So let me start from there," Taeil said. "After Taeyong gave Doyoung the confirmation that he got the key card, he moved to where they thought the drug deal was going to go down," Taeil told him. "And as we all know, the next part of the plan was for you to meet up with the others and intercept the deal," Taeil said. "But something went wrong," Taeil told him.

"What happened, Hyung?" Mark asked him. Taeil just looked at him. "I'm not really sure, Mark," Taeil told him. "One-minute Doyoung was checking in with all of you, then all of a sudden, the comms fizzed out," Taeil told him. "Doyoung checked where he had hacked into the building's security cameras, but they all went blank," Taeil said. "We couldn't hear you or see you." He explained. "It took about 10 minutes before Doie got the comms back up and even longer to get camera feedback." He said. "By that time, Taeyong and the others were freaking out because you never showed up." He told Mark. "And needless to say that everything went to shit not that long afterward." He said. "When we realized that you weren't there, we knew that something was wrong," Taeil told him. "You might be a tad bit clumsy, Mark-ah, but you're usually punctual, and you always show up when you're supposed to." He said. "Needless to say, that heads started rolling not that long after we put two and two together and figured out that we had been found out," Taeil said.
