Reason one why you shouldn't mess with Shroud: his dad is ready to start stabbin shit. Everyone particularly knew that Shroud was someone Tommy cared the most about and he was basically his dearest thing. Messing with Shroud meant causing Tommy to torture you, till he was satisfied with your apology. However, if someone didn't upset him but hurt him physically, it was better for them of the killed themselves before Tommy could get to them. His tortures were terrible, slowly making someone loose their kind and die painfully with no mercy.
When Tommy first introduced Shroud to everyone, people laughed at him and told him to give the kid away because he wasn't responsible enough to take care of a kid and sooner or later, someone would kill the kid. Shroud was a spider hybrid and most people hated spiders which lead to them killing every single one the saw. And they expected the same to happen to Shroud. However, after one of the villagers ended being tortured to death by Tommy, people quickly realized that Tommy was ready to kill anyone who would get too close to the hybrid. He could tell who wanted to being harm to Shroud even before the person did anything. He grew protective of the kid who kept him company while he was on his worse. With the help of the spider hybrid, he learned to love and be happy again. His friends were happy to see him smiling, even if it wasn't towards them but to the small multiple-eyed kid. Tommy was a great father and they could see that, the way he cared and helped the kid learn new things, the way he showed him love.

Tommy knew he would get along with Shroud at the moment when he saw him. God, it was love at the first sight. Shroud came up to him, not fearing the different looking creature. All his eyes  watched Tommy's every small move, before he hissed quietly. At first, Tommy was started and pulled out his sword turning around, only to be meet with many red eyes looking at him. Normally he would kill the monster but something made the spider look different from others. Without further thinking, Tommy took him home and raised. Some time later, Shroud started showing symptoms of being a hybrid. Not long after, he was able to shift into human form and back, totally shocking Tommy. It was the moment when Tommy's love only got stronger towards the kid with no doubt.
He swore to protect the child since he had nothing to loose and it wouldn't hurt to have a little companion, right?

Two years passed and they couldn't be more happier that they were. Shroud was fully capable of talking and slowly learned how to fight. Of course, Tommy taught him easy things, mostly defense. He himself wasn't a great fighter but it should be enough for Shroud to fight off rest of the mobs.
That was, of course, untill some news reached Tommy's ears. It was a moment when Tommy grew aware, keeping his kid closer to him all the time. He never left his sight, always having an eye on the hybrid. Shroud didn't know what was happening but if his dad wanted him to stay as close as possible, he knew something was wrong and he obeyed. Unfortunately, he was about to understand the whole situation and experience the side of Tommy that many people feared the most.

Pain shot through his whole body, him yelling in pain in the process. Smoke blurred his vision, entering his lungs as he tried to breath. Luckily for him, he had special potion. He drank it and he could breath without any problems in the matter of second. His eyes shot opened, while he looked around to observe his surrounding. He was in a hole, probably where his house once used to be. Burnt wood layed around him and some even on top of him. Ash floated in the air, some flames still burning the rest of the house. But Tommy wasn't sad, he was looking for something, or rather someone else.
He cursed in angrier, trying to stand up ignoring the whole piece of wood that pierced through his stomach. He didn't care about the pain and all the blood he lost, he had something to do. Yanking the piece of wood out, he managed to stand on his feet before looking up. Everything around him was either burned or blown up. He saw his friends helping others with their wounds, lucking all of them survived. Only some of them were hurt, which let Tommy breath in relief.
