Echo's sitting at the bar having his usual conversations with Vander about his fighting technique and Vander's critiques.
"If I'm ever gone, I want you to protect this family, son. You're strong, both mentally and physically." Vander said placing his hand on Echo's shoulder.
"I will." Echo said with a smile on his face as Vander slid him a drink.
"She hates you now." Another voice rang throughout his mind.
Echo woke up gasping for air with the eerie silence inside his apartment. He panicked as he looked around making sure no enforcers were still there before settling down.
"Fuck me, everything hurts." He said, still laying on the ground. "At least the swelling on my eye has gone down, that's a plus. The gunshot wound, though, is another story."
He remembers giving a note to the firelight as he helped Jinx on the hoverboard. It had instructions for Ekko to come to his apartment if he doesn't show up for in a day. "I didn't expect to be this beat up when I wrote that." He said as he struggled to get up, walked over to his closet, moved some items out of the way and pulled out a hoverboard Ekko gave him.
He walked over to the window and activated the hoverboard as he held it out of the window before boarding it and heading to the Firelight's hideout. It took him longer than he expected but as he got to the entrance he got off the hoverboard and knocked the passcode on it. A firelight opened it and pulled him in before calling for Ekko, Echo passed out before Ekko got to him.
Echo woke up on a bed with familiar blue hair on his gut. "Pushed yourself too far this time, Echo." Ekko said walking up to him, Jinx still asleep.
"How long was I out?" He asked rubbing his head.
"Two weeks." Ekko said, pulling a chair up and sitting next to him." She's been like this since you've been here, never left your side."
"Damn, I feel like a dick. I had her worried this whole time. Thanks taking her though." Echo said, a wave of guilt washing over him.
"I know you love her man, I also know you well enough that you don't want to admit it." Ekko said, laughing at the last part.
"Yeah, I do. How long have you known?" Echo said, looking at him.
"Since our disagreement that day. Let me know if you're still interested in that offer though." Ekko said, patting his shoulder as he got up and walked away.
Just as Ekko left, Jinx raises her head and sees Echo smiling at her.
"Go ahead and slap me, I know it's the least I deserve." He said, looking away from her and disappointed in himself.
He braced and waited for the slap but it never came, instead he was surprised with a kiss.
"That... was unexpected." Echo said once the kiss was over with, a slight blush appeared on his face.
"What offer was he talking about?" Jinx said, her head tilted to the side.
"It's something we talked about years ago before my travels." Echo said as he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Before you say it, I'm not leaving you like Vi did."
He looked at her shocked reaction. She was shocked because he'd known Ekko and her about for about the same length of time but she changed and he still chose her over the one who saved his life.
"You in any shape to move?" Ekko asked when he walked in.
"I can try. Why, what's up?" Echo said standing up, slightly grimacing.
"Caitlyn and Vi are on their way here." Ekko said before walking towards Echo.
"No, I've got this brother." Echo said, holding his hand out to stop him.
"Alright man, I'll try to give you two love birds some time." Ekko said before leaving.
"Let's go." Echo said looking at Jinx, concern showed on her face. "What's wrong?"
She stood there in silence, now causing Echo to worry. He felt a sharp pain in his arm and looked past Jinx, who was now running towards him, at the doorway seeing Vi and Caitlyn, Vi was yelling at Caitlyn for what just happened. Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion as he looked at his arm, seeing the red liquid running down it and dripping off his fingers made he chuckled before falling down.
He looked at Jinx as she caught he before he hit the ground. "Ironic, huh?" Echo asked and slightly chuckled, reaching up and brushing aside the hair covering one of her eyes "Instead of me saving you it's the other way around this time. Don't cry, you're perfect."
With that he closed his eyes, he felt her teardrops hitting his face. He knew he wasn't dead but he also knew that if the wound wasn't closed he'd bleed out.
"Where am I?" Echo asked asked he woke up, looking around the dark room.
"Same place as before." A feminine voice said beside him.
"Bluejay?" He asked looking to his side before being hugged by her, he felt her tears rolling down his back and chest.
He returned the hug and ignored the pain in his arm as he did so. "I'm sorry" is all he got out before he noticed Vi standing in the doorway. He had mixed emotions seeing her standing there, on the one hand she led them to his exact room in the apartments but on the other she was chewing Caitlyn a new one for shooting him.
Echo looked down at Jinx, her pink irises meeting his hazel, and she nodded.
"Come on over here, Vi." He sighed, still torn on how to feel.
After Vi had hugged him Echo thought he'd seen another figure in the corner but they were gone when he looked back over at it.
"Something up?" Vi asked him, noticing him staring off.
"No, thought I saw something." Echo said, running his hand through his hair.
"You losing your mind too?" Jinx asked him, mainly just joking with him.
"I'd hope not, Bluejay." Echo said, playfully punching her arm.
"Where'd you come up with that nickname? You actually never gave a reason." Vi curiously asked him.
"One time when I went into Piltover just exploring I saw a bird that resembled the color of her hair and she never said anything about not liking it." Echo said, shrugging his shoulders at the last bit and slightly winced in pain.
"I've always liked it." Jinx said, laying her head on his shoulder.
Ekko walked in and signaled for Vi to leave.
"See ya." She said to Echo and Jinx as she left.
"Likewise." Echo said before she walked out the door.
"Something happen between you two?" Jinx asked after Vi left.
"She... she was there with the enforcers after I got you away from there. I know I led them to the building but she led them to the exact room." Echo said, sighing and pinching the bridge of his nose before saying "Then again I wouldn't have ever made it back if it wasn't for her help."
"I'll let you get that much needed rest." Jinx said before standing up.
"Alright, be careful now Bluejay." He said as he gave her a hug.
Echo watched her as she walked out and waved at him one more time. He laid back down on the bed and fell asleep again.
