"It's like your screaming but no one can hear. You almost feel ashamed that someone could be that important, that without them, you feel like nothing. No one will ever understand how much it hurts. You feel hopeless, like nothing can save you. And when it's over and it's gone, you almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back so you can have the good.

Nina's eyes stayed glued to looking out the window of her fathers fancy bright red convertible that drove down the now dirt road. She wore a simple black long sleeve with some black skinny jeans and black converse sneakers. Her hair was down being used as a curtain to block her from her fathers hateful glances. Every time they stopped at a stop sign she'd visibly sink more in her seat hoping he wouldn't lash out. Ivan Verro was a rich social man who had everything handed to him. He hated his daughter with a passion, if you asked why he'd lie to your face keeping up his perfect facade. But behind closed doors he beat the living hell out of her, hell it was closer to torture.
It all started when Nina's mother Rosaline had passed away from a terminal illness when Nina was 6. Ever since then it had been like a flipped switched with her father and he became the monster of her nightmare of a life. He blamed Nina partially just because she was there and an easier target then god himself.
As they drove down the dirt road into Tulsa Oklahoma Nina glanced around the small town wearily. She was moving from the city back in South California where she had been born and raised. Her eyes caught sight of a bunch of leather wearing punks beating up on some kid dressed either preppy or extra nerdy. Nina held in a sigh as she saw the sight knowing she'd probably be bullied here too.
Back home she was verbally assaulted daily for being a 'mute.' The kids had started to get a bit testy and began dumping lunches on Nina's head during lunch to spark a conversation. But- she'd sit there and do nothing...... say nothing. She wouldn't even make a noise as the liquids and chunks of food went into her hair and scalp. She felt like a hollow shell that had nothing to live for besides going to college and getting a job as far as humanly possible from her father.
It was a pipe dream at this point. Nina tried to hide the unease as they pulled up in front of a huge house in the neighborhood. As her father climbed out the neighbors already began snooping to see if their newest neighbor was as wealthy or more so then them. He was. Nina slowly climbed out and began unloading the u haul to fill up the house. She knew her father liked to maintain an image so she was to put the most expensive living room decor out first as soon as possible.
She even started the kitchen when the first knock came, then the second, soon many knocks and conversations flew outside as Nina continued to unpack things to look presentable. The neighbors not even noticing the older girl that never went out to meet them.
They gave plenty of food as a 'warm welcome' Ivan Verro laughing loudly outside at a joke he probably didn't find funny. Nina began putting his beer in the fridge knowing he'd want them cold before he ate dinner. When the neighbors finally left Nina heard the door open making her tense as her father scoffed walking in grabbing a beer. The people pleasing facade long gone.
