The dress loosely hung from her body, the green material felt soft on her skin. She stood in a fitting room, another useless room that came along with the many that adorned the Malfoy Manor. Ravenna peered at herself in the mirror while women worked on magically sewing the dress to fit her smaller body. The dress absolutely consumed her.
That was not to say the dress wasn't lovely. It was a deep, emerald green, off the shoulder with a slit on her right that went up to her mid-thigh. It revealed a lot of cleavage, a deep satin V-shaped neckline leaving little to the imagination, the waist band accentuating her small waist. She could see her collarbones poking through her skin.
It wasn't that she didn't like the dress, because she did. It was gorgeously made with incredible, expensive fabric. Ravenna was just sick of seeing green everywhere. Being in Slytherin, everything was green, from the things you wear, right down to the pillows on your bed. Merlin, she wished she was wearing this dress in anything other than green.
Mother picked this, no doubt. The wretched woman she is.
It slipped off her shoulders as they took it off to be tailored, she looked at the golden bangles around her wrists, making sure nothing, morbidly surprising, could be seen.
Ravenna observed the two fitting ladies, one was tall and slender, with rounded frame glasses who looked to be at least in her 50's. The second was stockier with short brown hair, she couldn't have been older than her late 20's. She would smile sweetly up at Ravenna while she worked.
Now, Ravenna couldn't lie to say that she was far less impassioned to wear the dress once she found out her mother had picked it. Ravenna was just happy it was long-sleeved. Her mother also had so graciously decided that Ravenna should have her hair straightened. Ravenna was not excited for this part. Ravenna rolled her eyes as she recalled what her mother had told her.
"I don't want to see that curly, untamed, matted mess everywhere."
You could take a page out of your own book, you insane wench.
Her mother walked in, and the two women that were fitting her dress bowed their heads to Bellatrix. Ravenna put on a silk robe, covering her once exposed body.
"It's a little loose, we'll have to tighten it." the older one with the glasses said to Ravenna's mother.
Bellatrix dismissed them with her hand, "Do what you must." And with that, they bowed their heads again, leaving the room.
As the door shut behind them, Bellatrix muttered "mudbloods" under her breath. Ravenna stayed standing in her robe, she wondered in her own mind as the woman that birthed her, sat down in a chair.
"Your father will be here tonight." she said looking around, observing the elegant room. Ravenna only nodded.
"Have you been making process with the Vanishing Cabinet?"
A flashback of the dead birds played in Ravenna's head.
"Yes, it's coming along quite nicely."
They sat in silence for what felt like forever, looking at anything but each other. But the question prickled up Ravenna's neck, and she couldn't stop it from falling from her mouth.
"Why didn't you let me stay with the Malfoy's? Why did you make me leave?"
Ravenna said suddenly. She had always wondered it, always wondered why she wasn't allowed to stay with her family.
