Chapter 12
Eleanor's POV

A/N: Shorter Chapter I apologise :)

I catch Kylie midway as she is about to leave.
"Where are you headed?" I ask, watching her gulp.

"None of your business, Eleanor," She replies. "I have some things I need to take care of."
I block the door still.
"Should I report you to the Clave for suspicious activities?"

Kylie raises an eyebrow.
"Would you really do that, blondie?"

I keep my chin held up high.
"Yes, I would."
Kylie laughs.
"Alrighty, I'll tell you the truth. I'm a warlock and I'm hunting Addison Campbell."

"Yeah," I reply. "And I'm Jace Herondale. I'm not that stupid, Bridgestock."
"Well , suit yourself mate, I'm going out."
Kylie grabs her hat, an old baseball cap, and slips nimbly past me and makes her way down the hall.

I stare at her, trying to find the right words, but that brat beat me again.
"By the angel," I mutter and walk down the hallway in the opposite direction.

I see Aunt Dru in her old bedroom, watching a horror movie with Uncle Tavvy.
I pass by John's bedroom, Aunt Livia's old bedroom, which Uncle Ty gave to him, saying that Livia said he could have it.
Lissa is staying in Diana's old bedroom, while Alessa is in her mom's brother, Uncle Mark's room.

I go to mine, which is my dad's old room, and flop on my bed.

How can I catch Kylie in the act?
I just know something is up, she cannot be innocent.

"John!" I call, using my outdoor voice.

Footsteps squeak as he runs down the hall, his brown hair popping in through the door first.
"You called?" He asks, sitting on my rug.
I nod.
"I need your detective skills that Ty and Uncle Kit taught you."

He smiles.
"That I can do, what do you need spying on?"

"Kylie."

John twists his headphones around his neck.
"Why her?"

"Doesn't she seem suspicious?"
I twirl a dirty blonde curl on my index finger.

John shrugs.
"Not really."
I glare at him.

"Fine, fine. I'll start a basic search. But are you sure you aren't acting out because of what happened to Atticus-"
I cut him off.
"I'm perfectly fine, John. Just help me here, please. I don't trust Kylie at all."

He nods, producing a notebook out of his jacket pocket.
"Let's go follow our suspect, how does that sound?"

***

The two of us go, decked out in full gear, to the Shadow Market.
John said that he tracked Kylie here, and we're following her.
Hypatia is being the bouncer again, and she waves us inside.

"You take the left quadrant," He instructs, "And I'll take the right one."

I nod, trying to conceal my visible runes.
Gloves are on my hands, covering my Voyance rune and some other permanent ones.
This will be fine.

I go down the lane of stalls, investigating each Downworlder that may seem suspicious.
Then I see Kylie's brown head at one stall, hugging a person with blond hair.
They look up, and it is visible that they were crying.

Maybe I was wrong, I guess.

I turn to leave, when I see a burst of magic go around Kylie, and she turns into a totally different person.
What the hell?
