Chapter 11

Raleigh's POV

All of us immediately stand as a demon had grabbed Piers Wentworth.

Alistair and Barbara had gone over, as if the two had super speed, trying to pry the demon from Piers's body.
Charles had shoved Ariadne behind him, while Barbara was shouting; "What is it?!"

Cordelia had races desperately over to help her brother.
I see Rosamund screaming, while Ariadne had moved to look at Piers.

Matthew yelled at all of us to form a big circle, handing Lucie an unlit seraph blade.
James ran over with Oliver, and I look at Antony.

"Get the others," I instruct, grabbing a seraph blade. "Jonathan!" I shout, and it lights up.
Antony comes back over, and the five of us get in formation with the 1900s people, as the demons race like hellhounds across the grass.

The demons skin was rough and corrugated, the colour of onyx; their eyes flaming black. They tore silently at all of us, racing.
"Micah!" I hear someone shout, and soon the blaze of  the blades become a bonfire.

I start swinging, the way Jace taught me, but this was unlike any battle I've ever seen.
I could see it in Cordelia's eyes as well.

I hear high-pitched screaming, looking over to see Charles get thrown aside and Ariadne flung like a rag doll into a tree.
Rosalie had started to go help, but she and Cordelia both paused as Anna raced over, being a badass queen, helping.

She gave out a cry for help, and Thomas soon joined her, followed by Lucie and Barbara, armed with seraph blades.
I run over, helping Matthew slice through demons, as Adele and Ash sprint over to help Barbara, right before a demon got to her.

There was pure silence immediately after James sunk his blade into the last demon.

I breathe out slowly, surveying our surroundings.
The picnic area was a wreck, but the two still figures that were unmoving worried me more.
Piers Wentworth, drenched in blood, Rosamund sobbing at his side.
And Ariadne, crumpled in a heap, her pink dress stained with red. Charles knelt with her, but her head is in Anna's lap.

The demons might have been gone, but they sure left one hell of an after clean up.

***

The five of us sit in a carriage on the way back to the London Institute.

"I should've warned them," I mutter into Antony's shoulder as he holds me.
"That would have messed up the timeline, Ral," He replies, rubbing my back.
Ash nods.
"At least Addie and I helped Barbara, right? Her leg would have been covered in black gunk by now."

I nod, because that's reasonable.

We arrive, and I see Lucie run over to Cecily.
Antony and I follow, while the others go to the hospital wing.

"Lucie! Raleigh! Antony!" She cries, hugging the three of us.
I notice Cordelia hanging back awkwardly.
"I don't understand how that could have happened," Cecily says.

Gabriel puts a hand on Cecily's shoulder.
"You know what Anna said, dear," He adds. "It's less than likely to happen again."

Lucie nods, seeming placated.

"And Jem- Brother Zachariah will be here with the other Silent Brothers," Cecily says, looking up at the Institute. "They will help Ariadne and Piers, I know they will."
My eyes widen.
"Jem?" I ask, my voice raw.

Lucie and Cordelia both turn to look at me, bewildered.

Cecily nods.
She rests a hand on my shoulder.
"He's alright, you know that, okay?"

I nod, getting her time-travel hints.
"Thanks, Cecily," I say.
She smiles.

Lucie and Cordelia head inside, allowing Antony and I to follow them.

~

The institute is completely packed as the four of us go in.

Tessa and Will had set up a station in one corner, healing the minor injuries.
Jem and two other brothers had come in right after James, and Antony and I lost control of our breathing for a second.

Brother Shadrach was working on Piers, while Enoch crouched over Ariadne.
Charles was slumped in a chair near Barbara, who was awake but being looked over.

James was filthy, but I saw Jem near him, mentally speaking.

"That's so odd," I whisper into Antony's ear.
He nods in response.

I see Will come back in with Jem, and I walk over quickly to talk before he starts working Barbara.
"Jem?" I ask, his face sort of creepy looking. "Do you remember me?"

Raleigh? What on earth are you guys doing here again?

"Unfinished business from the horrible future," I reply quietly. "Are you alright?"

I wish I could say I am, Jem's tone seems sad. But please be of help with Will and James, the Herondale name definitely suits you.

I smile.
"Just be patient, Jem. Things will go your way in an amount of time."
Jem didn't smile, giving a nod before going to see Barbara.

I go back over to Antony, hugging him tightly.

"Let's go somewhere peaceful," He says, helping me stand correctly and leading me out.
We climb the stairs and into my room.

I grab a clean night outfit for the both of us, handing it to him.

"That was so sad," I mutter, grabbing a cloth and pouring water on it.
I leave it on the bathroom counter, shutting the door so I can change behind it.

"I'm sorry, Ral," Antony says. "This must be harder for you. Jem is a mundane for us, not a Brother."
I come back out, and he's changed.

I put our ichor-stained clothes in the hamper, and sit on the bed.
He sits next to me, and we both take turns wiping the blood off each other's arms and faces.
I feel the cool water cleaning me, and I close my eyes.

"It will be alright," I mutter.
"Are you sure? Antony replies, removing the cloth.
I nod, and feel the soft-skin of his lips pressing kisses to my eyelids and cheeks, slowing their way to my lips.

He kisses me gently, and I kiss him back, before I open my eyes.
Antony pulls me into his arms, playing with my blonde curls.

"You're so beautiful," He mutters.
I chuckle, blushing.

He pulls up the covers, pulling me closer, and the two of us fall asleep.
