Chapter 18
Olive's POVTW: Fighting scenes, and some injuries.
My face pales.
I watch Ahren pull Kahlen closer to them, and I turn, my eyes flaring.
John pulls out his seraph blade."Ha," the cloaked person laughs. "You thought that you could enter the lair and steal one of the projects and get away with it?"
"She's not a project," Ahren hisses. "She's my daughter. And I won't let you do anything to her."
The cloaked person laughs again.Five more cloaked figures emerge from the hidden entrance.
John makes an incoherent noise, and I let down my disguise, my magic flaring with my anger.
"You will not make this out alive," The cloaked person says.
"And who are you to judge that?" A voice interrupts. We all turn.
Eleanor stands on a rock, with Lissa on her left with a whip in her hand and Alessa to her right with two dual blades."You picked the wrong Shadowhunters to mess with," Lissa says.
She cracks the whip.I nod at John and Ahren, quickly forming a plan in my mind.
The cloaked people raise their arms, weapons appearing.I summon a force field around us, and quietly make a portal.
"Ahren, you know what to do."They nod, picking up Kahlen and pulling her into a piggyback ride.
I open the portal big enough to let them pass, and they run out."No!" The cloaked leader yells. "She wasn't supposed to getaway! Get them!"
I close the portal, watching the other members of my group.
Do we stay or fight?"What do we do?" John yells.
He holds his swords out."We're Shadowhunters!" Lissa yells back. "We fight! Kylie, lower your shields!"
I do as told, holding my flames in my hands, preparing what I'm going to say in my head.Everyone gets in their stances, and we all simultaneously fight the cloaked people.
One comes at me, and I raise my hands, magic pouring out of them. They curse loudly and I laugh.
"You cannot win!" The cloaked person yells.Eleanor strikes down another person with her dual blades.
"This is for my brother, you git!"
John swings, his blades crashing with other people.I hear a scream, turning to see Alessa pushed up against the rocks.
Her throat is being choked.I summon a portal behind Alessa and she falls through it.
I close it immediately afterwards, and the hooded person runs into the wall.I let another portal appear next to Eleanor, and Alessa pops out, breathing hard.
"You okay?" Eleanor yells to her.
Alessa nods. Her throat is hurt. I can tell.
I feel a person gaining in my peripheral vision, and I blast them away.
Lissa grunts and I turn and blast the person they're fighting. The sword scrapes Lissa's leg and she cries out.
"We need to go!" Eleanor yells.
I nod.I summon another portal, and we all are transported back to my room in the Institute.
***
I wake up with a start, breathing heavily.
Everyone is crowded around me.
"Are you okay?" Ahren asks. Their brows are furrowed with worry.
I nod, sitting up.
Kahlen hugs me gently and backs up."What happened?"
"You passed out from exhaustion," Eleanor replies, her tone like 'duh'.
Alessa smacks Eleanor's arm."Be nice," John says to her. "You passed out a few hours ago."
"Is everyone ok? I saw Lissa and Alessa get hurt."All eyes turn towards Lissa and Alessa.
Lissa has a long rune and a bandage going up to her thigh, and Alessa has a few bandages on her throat.
"I'm fine, Kylie," Lissa says. "But Alessa won't be able to talk for a while."
"Speaking of that," Alessa writes on a piece of paper. "Who are you, really?"I flush, looking at Ahren.
They shrug and Kahlen giggles."Well first, you all probably know by now that I am not a Shadowhunter."
They all nod.
"My name is Olive Siphon. I am a warlock, and I am not young. Don't ask me about my age, I can't remember it. But I am here, looking for clues about Campbell.""Ashton or Addison?" John asks.
"Addison," I reply. "She owes me several things. And I intend to make her pay."
"You're not the only one," Eleanor mutters.
The whole group nods."Did you find any clues?" Lissa asks.
I nod.
"Yeah, Ahren and Kahlen are helping me with that.""Are we being played right now?" John asks. "Because our families' trust right now is limited."
"Why on earth would I lie?"
I pull out my bag and show the group the compass. All their eyes widen big.
Especially Eleanor's."I see now," John says. "You're good."
I put the compass bag away and summon the holding portal and throw the bag in, closing it up.
The door knocks, and I make my appearance Kylie again.
Emma and Julian walk in."Ah," Emma says. "Everyone is in her room. Okay."
Julian holds up a plate of pancakes and toast, with orange juice."Oooh, food!" Lissa squeals.
They all converge on the adults.I sit on my bed more comfortably, while everyone files out of my room with food.
Kahlen sits in Ahren's lap, eating food quietly while they hold her gently."Are you alright?" I ask.
They both nod."Did they do anything to you, Kahlen?"
She shakes her head.
Ahren whispers something into her ear and she nods. They pick her up and I slide myself off of the bed.
She lays down."Can you scan me, Olive?" She asks. "With your magic?"
I nod and Ahren locks my door.
I let the blue sparkles come out of my hands and run my hands a few inches above her tiny body.No warning signs come in my first diagnosis.
Phew.I wave my hands over one more time, and something catches my eye.
It's near her brain. Where the memories are located."Shit," I mumble.
"What is it?" Ahren asks, their voice reaching a level of panic.
"Someone tampered with her memories. I don't know what she is having blocked. I'll need herbs and a special person who is good at magic blocking.""Who?" Kahlen asks.
She looks scared."Magnus Bane."
