Chapter 9
Raleigh's POV
TW: Some suggestive phrases but not a lot :)
I wake up and see Antony leaning against the doorframe.
Just like old times.
"Hey Kier," I say smiling.
"Hey Ral," He replies.
He tosses me a new pair of clothing and chuckles.
"The old maids remembered me and remembered the measurements of all our clothing."
"Thanks, now go so I can change."
Antony chuckles.
"Maybe I want to see you change."
I throw a pillow at him, and he laughs, catching it, and shuts the door.
I quickly change and look at the new style of clothes. Knit sweaters and plus fours. Mine is a blue linen shirt and black trousers.
I head downstairs and find everyone at their place in the dining hall.
Everyone had new spots, and it took me a minute to realise that the people who aren't alive anymore had their spots taken over by others.
My heart took a jump as I sat at the table to unfamiliar faces, and looked at Will.
"It's okay Ral," He says while taking a sip of tea. "It still feels different for Tess and me."
Tessa nods, while James and Lucie look utterly confused.
"How do you know them so well?" James asks suspiciously.
Will just shrugs evasively, making Tessa swear under her breath.
"Very good family friends," Antony says.
"But you're the same age as us," Lucie retorts.
"Yes, that is also correct," Rose adds.
She made an effort to show her ears today, the pointy-ness visible with her day-dress.
"This is Antony and Rosalie Kingson, Jamie," Will says. He points to the twins. "And this is Ashton Campbell, an ascendant, along with Raleigh and Adele Herondale."
The children's eyes widen.
"How do you-"
Adele and I laugh.
"Quite mysterious, are we?" Adele asks.
"You might want to figure that out amongst yourselves," I add.
Will and Tessa both smile, and we all start to eat breakfast.
"Are they coming to the picnic, father?" James asks.
Will nods.
"Of course they are, and you can ask them on your own, son. They aren't ghosts, like Jessamine."
"Jessamine's a ghost?!" Rosalie yells, shocked.
I nod, muttering.
"I told you this before, Rose."
She blushes.
"Sorry, may I speak with her?"
"Why would you want to speak with her?" Antony mumbles, and I kick his knee under the table.
Lucie giggles.
"You can see ghosts too? I will show you her!"
Rosalie nods and the two of them excuse themselves, dashing from the room.
James looks wary.
"So, what have you been up to?" I ask, trying to make a conversation.
His golden eyes search my blue ones.
"Other than the party, nothing."
I chuckle, knowing that he's lying.
He's been up with that evil Grace Blackthorn the entire time.
"You can trust them," Tessa reemphasises. "Raleigh saved Will's life a couple of years ago."
"Really?" James asks, shocked.
I nod.
I pull up the sleeve of my jacket and show the various scar marks that the Silent Brothers couldn't heal.
Will heaves a breath.
Tessa puts her fingers into Will's and Antony intertwines his with mine.
