Chapter 7

Raleigh's POV

He recognises Antony and me and stands abruptly.
"Excuse me," He says to his tablemates before running over to us.

I get at least two seconds before my air supply gets cut off by Will's bear hug.

"Can't-breathe-" I manage.
He lets me go and looks at Antony and me with disbelief.
"What in the name of the angel are you doing here?"

I chuckle.
"We were in the neighbourhood," Antony replies.
He smiles.

"Where are the others?" Will asks, turning to face the other side.
I point to Rosalie, who is speaking with Rosamund Wentworth and Barbara Lightwood.
I turn around and point to Ashton and Adele, who are dancing together and trying not to seem too romancey.

Will smiles.
"Cecily won the bet."

"What bet?" I ask, confused.

"Cecily bet that the two would end up together," He replies. "And I said that only the two of you would end up together."
He smirks and raises an eyebrow at me.
I blush.
"Now, come on, I have guests who want to see you."

We follow him across the ballroom.
At the table he is seated at, there are Gabriel, Gideon, Sophie, Cecily and Tessa.
Everyone except Gabriel's eyes widens.

Tessa stands and hugs me tightly.
"Oh, Raleigh," She says. "It is so good to see you again."
I smile big.
"It's great to see you, Tessa," I reply. "We share the same last name now."
"You adopted the Herondale name?"

I nod.
"Your descendant and Charlotte's descendant adopted me."

She smiles.
Sophie and Cecily both stand, hugging the two of us.

"It's good to see you again," Cecily says.
"We didn't think that you would come back," Sophie adds.

"We weren't planning on it," Antony says. "But a warlock in our time found Raleigh and gave her a compass."
Cecily smiles.
"Why have you decided to return?"

"Ashton's sister," I reply. "She sent us back in time, originally. And we got back, and she had struck the vampire's hotel and hurt several downworlders and Shadowhunters. Then she time-travelled here."

Will looks over at us, his face paling.
"She's here?"
I nod, sitting down next to Antony.
"Somewhere."

"We must send some to look for her," Gideon says, eavesdropping.
I shake my head.
"No, it's too dangerous. I am not allowed to spoil your timeline, but you guys will have a new danger coming. No patrols right now, we can handle it."

Antony places a hand on my knee under the table, giving it a reassuring squeeze.

All five of the adults nod.
Will stands, offering me a hand.

"I owe you a dance. It's in the favour you did to help me, remember?"
I nod, remembering the shards that once pierced my back.

I take his hand, following him onto the dance floor.
We start a traditional waltz, and he notices the things he gave me from the 1800s.

"You still have them?"
I nod, watching him fidget with the ring that he gave me.
"Does the tie seem familiar?" I reply, being funny.

He barks a laugh, noticing how all the teenagers are watching us.

"Gossip surely spreads fast," I say, chuckling. "I wonder what they have come up with."
He shrugs, spinning me gently.
"Let them come up with the gossip, I mean you and Ashton are dressed similarly to Miss Anna, and Rosalie & Adele's dresses are very out of fashion."
