I dreamt of him again, just like every night

I dreamt of him again, just like every night. The incident was haunting me, robbed me of sleep and it seemed like the nightmare would never end. I felt like a dead woman walking when I got up the next day and it took me a few minutes to get dressed because I was zoning out here and there. All I wanted was a few calm hours of sleep that would get my energy and strength back. The wound wasn't healing either, my body was tired and exhausted.

Nevertheless, there was much work to do today, I pulled myself together and walked downstairs for a short breakfast. Geralt and Ciri had already left for their training session outside. I quickly ate something and looked for them. It was snowing again but not as much as the past days. The two were behind the fortress, practising with wooden swords.

Ciri saw me walking up to them and was distracted, which Geralt used to his advantage. He broke through her defence and knocked the sword out of her hand. The girl shook her hurting hand and gave him an angry stare. "That was not fair."

"You didn't concentrate on what you were doing."

"I guess that's my fault."

Geralt turned around and lowered his sword. "What are you doing here?"

Was I imagining it or did Geralt sound quite happy that I came to watch them train? "You want me to train Ciri, don't you?" I asked and sat down on a bench not far away from them. "Yesterday, I watched her summon chaos and now I want to see her fight - I need to see what you have already taught her and what you obviously have forgotten."

"Hmm," Geralt made amused. "I'm so glad you're willing to share your wisdom with us, Visna."

"Always," I replied with a smile and leaned back against the backrest. "Please, go ahead."

Ciri grinned and got into position. Geralt sighed and raised his sword. The two wooden scabbards touched for a second before they were pulled back and the fight began. I could tell that the Witcher was going easy on the princess, and she could have used a few of the opportunities he gave her. She only fought with her body and not with her magic.

Yesterday had shown that great power was slumbering inside of her, but she couldn't access it. Or control it after calling it up to the surface. And if she did, destruction was one of the side effects. Luckily, nothing major had happened, Geralt and I managed to keep anything under control. I slowly put a picture about Ciri together, she was capable of a lot, her magic was very strong.

The fight didn't last long, Geralt knocked the sword out of her hand once again. She sighed in frustration and looked over to me.

I nodded slowly, crossing my arms. "Not bad at all. But your centre was off three times, Geralt." The Witcher shook his head but smiled. "And you should work on your backhand, it looks a bit weaker than the last time I saw you fight."

"Thanks for the feedback, teacher!" Geralt laughed.

A warm wave went through my body, I've never seen him laugh this honestly about something. He sure had changed, but for the better.
