❝I have something to lose. My heart. It would be very hard to put it back together if it would be broken by you.❞
❝I would never hurt you.❞

The snowstorm grew stronger and stronger with the minutes passing by. Although my horse was used to the cold and the crazy weather that came along with it sometimes, he was nervous because there was no shelter in sight. I patted Cene on the shoulder, trying to comfort him but it was hard to find something to keep my spirit up.
Around us were trees as far as the eye could see. Luckily, it was still day, but the sun would set in two hours. And with the night came the monsters that lurked in the dark woods, waiting for the light to disappear for their hunt to begin.
I wouldn't be able to defend myself, my arm hurt, and I was exhausted. My sight was getting blurry, I had no idea when I had something to drink last. My water was gone, just like my coat and a few other of my belongings were missing, too. But I hadn't had the time to collect them, I needed to leave in a rush or else I wouldn't be alive right now.
Ghouls were pesky things and it made me angry that we hadn't been able to catch the trolls we were looking for, the ghouls drove them away. They were still out in the forest, and I swore to myself that I would return to them as soon as I was able to. But for now, staying awake was more important. If I would fall asleep, I might fall off the horse and freeze to death in the snow.
Cene grew more tired with every step he did through the knee-high snow, he was weak from the journey, the stress of fleeing and now the storm was draining his last reserves of energy. We needed to find a safe place with food and water, so we could regain our strength. Hopefully the others had already found a shelter and were fine.
I pulled the fur that I had found in one of the saddle bags up my neck with my right hand, but the shivering wouldn't stop. My body was shaking so much that my teeth were chattering. I couldn't feel my fingers anymore, it felt like a distant memory as I raised my left hand to lead Cene closer to an opening in the far.
No, it wasn't an opening, it was the end of a forest that led into a mountain valley. Suddenly, a thought struck me - I knew these cliffs! Down the path was the Witcher's home and one of them was most certainly there. The thought kept me going and Cene seemed to remember as well, I didn't need to drive him, he started walking quicker on his own. We made our way through the valley as the storm blew around our ears, but I sighed in relieve when the stone walls opened up and gave the sight to Kaer Morhen free. Somebody was there, I could see a light burning in one of the windows.
As the horse approached the huge gate, I could make out a figure above it. A guard watched me as I came closer, and I waved as I recognised the figure. "Lambert!"
"Oh, it is you!" The red haired man yelled back. "I wasn't sure if I might be dreaming!"
"Can I come inside? The weather is crazy and my horse needs to be taken care off, it has been through a lot."
"As you have as well, I imagine. Please, be our guest!"
I rode into the big castle and got down from Cene, patting him as I waited for Lambert to come down. The Witcher greeted me with a smile and a big hug. "You have brought some weather with you!"
