It was hard to leave Gideon behind. Again. My heart was aching when I gave him one last look before stepping through the portal back to our world. But the look he gave me made me believe that he would be alright. And he would return. Gideon has never broken a promise.
Jaskier had been searching for us while we were away. It must have been only a few minutes, but the bard was visibly worried when he heard us coming back. After a brief explanation of what happened and a thousand questions from the poet, I excused myself to go and find Weg. The Queen had to learn about this as soon as possible. Gideon could be the one who could stop all of this. The knowledge he had already gathered about the Sun Stone was promising and I was sure he would return to our world with a plan that would finally defeat Nilfgaard and destroy the Wild Hunt.
I heard Geralt telling Jaskier to help Ciri pack before he went after me. He had caught up to me in seconds, although I had put quite a distance between myself and Ciri's room. "This isn't a safe plan."
"No plan ever is. But it's a hopeful one and sometimes, that's enough."
The Witcher grabbed my arm, preventing me to walk away. "Visna-"
"No, I'm going straight to Skellige." I ripped my arm out of his hold but turned around to face him. "This ... stone could defeat the Wild Hunt! And when Gideon is back, we might even find a way to end the war against Nilfgaard."
"How could he possibly help with that?"
"He knows something," I said, crossing my arms. "About Nilfgaard, I could sense it. But he didn't want to talk. Maybe because we weren't alone."
"If he knew something about Nilfgaard, he would have told you."
"Not if it's somehow connected to Ciri's Destiny."2
"And how would that work?"
"Ask him, not me." I exhaled loudly. "The Wild Hunt and Nilfgaard are our main problems right now – Oh, and the idiot who rules Kaedwen who most certainly will align with Nilfgaard right in front of our nose. Maybe he has already done that, what caused all of the odd problems here ..."
"You mean, Henselt is behind all of this?" Geralt thought out loud. "Would make sense ... If you fall, everybody else will, too. The continent would lose one of their greatest nations to Nilfgaard and the northern kingdoms are basically helpless against the black army without the Skjaldmærs."
I shrugged. "It's the only explanation that could come to my mind. Or can you think of something else?"
"No, not really ..." He shook his head. "Your theory sounds plausible."
"Hopefully it's not reality."
"You should act upon it, no matter what. Keeping Taalen's guard up is the most important part now. And maybe it's not too late ..." Geralt's eyes wandered away into the far as if he wanted to disassociate himself from the situation. Then suddenly, he snapped back, and his facial features grew dark. "What is she up to?"
