❝I would never hurt you.❞

A blast of fire hit the man made out of hay and cloth.
"Shit!" Ciri called out.
"That was Eldur," I commented, putting the fire out with gust of wind. "I asked you to summon Vindur."
"Why do they have similar names?!"
"Those are the words for Fire and Wind in our language."
"You should invent new ones ..." She grunted and put her arms up to try again.
"Left foot more forward," I corrected her. "Think about your footwork."
She didn't listen and kept going which caused her to nearly miss a step, needing her arms to find her centre again, which took a second. A very valuable second in a real fight.
"Ciri, focus - If you don't concentrate on what you're doing, you'll never get this right!" I suddenly snapped at her, I realized too late that the way my words came out were too harsh. The teenager turned to me, hurt. "I'm sorry, that ... came out wrong. I'm very sorry, Ciri, I'm a bit stressed."
The girl lowered her sword, stepping away from the doll. "I worry about him, too. But he's alright, I'm sure of it. He's Geralt of Rivia after all."
"Still," I replied with a sigh. "I would prefer it if he would be here. Or if he had taken some Skjaldmærs with him."
"He's a lone wolf, you know that."
"I know. And until he's back, all we can do is wait - and try to focus on what we're doing."
"Yes, yes," She rolled her eyes, knowing what I was referring too but leaned the sword next to the dummy to drink from her water. "But he's staying with us, if he comes back, right?"
I frowned. "How do you mean that?"
"I mean ..." She drank a gulp and put the bottle back at its place. "That we can stay in Taalen, right? Geralt and me. Forever."
"Well, I don't know about forever," I gave her a little smile. "Both of you will get tired of the life here and are going on adventures again. And Jaskier will going you obviously, he needs new content for his songs. If Geralt even wants you to stay here after what has happened at the morning of the Julfest."
"But you could come with us," Ciri tried with a smile on her face. "You are still a member of the Court of Owls and that's what you do - except you have permanent travel companions."
"That sounds very intriguing, but I don't think Geralt would appreciate it if I would tag along. Besides, I would be another person to worry about for all of you."
"I know you like him," she said softly. "And I get it's complicated but why can't we all stay together?"
"We will see what Destiny has prepare for us, alright? But for now, I want to see the footwork again."
