Ciri and Geralt had left Kaer Morhen in the early hours of the morning. The girl had asked me to accompany them, but I refused. Geralt clearly didn't want me to go with them and I didn't need a passive aggressive silence between us while hunting the monster.

Besides, I could use a moment to myself. I wandered around Kaer Morhen and explored the rooms I hadn't visited, yet. I even stood in front of Geralt's and fought with myself if I should take a peek inside, wondering how he was living. But my manners called on me, telling me not to invade his privacy.

My stroll took me to the library. I've never been a big reader, I only enjoyed it when I did my research for exciting and intriguing cases. Walking down the long rows of bookshelves, I found myself in the prophecy section. One book in particular jumped right into my eye. I pulled it out of the long row of ancient books.

The symbol of a golden candle was pressed into the dark red leather. It looked like it was made yesterday but the first page told me that it must be the oldest book within the whole library. My eyes wandered over the different texts, I cross read some of the prophecies. A few of them had already occurred, some had not and would in the future. I flipped to the last page where the index was and read the titles. One made me frown and I flipped to the page.

The Child Among Owls

When winter is coming to an end, the owls will learn of a child in disguise. Born of female gender, far away from her land, she will grow up and train to become a worrier this world needs. After she's reached the matured age, she will lead the troops towards their enemies and restore peace on the continent.
But be afraid of her magic, she will not know how much she can do. Aware of her purpose, she might choose differently to please Destiny which can mean the destruction of the worlds.

In confusion, I closed the book again and put it back, remining myself to ask Vesemir about this prophecy before wandering off into the next section that talked about alchemy. To cure my boredom, I spent the rest of the day in the library, reading a few chapters in books that sounded interesting and might be useful knowledge in the future. But I couldn't sit in the only warm room of Kaer Morhen the remaining time until the others were back for dinner, my thoughts started to drift off after a while.

The thing on my mind had a name and unfortunately, this time, it wasn't Gideon. I didn't want to think about yesterday's conversation with Geralt again. Or the one the day before. So, I decided to head downstairs to the basement to make a few more arrows.

Vesemir had allowed me to use their supplies after he saw that I was running low on arrows. The old man knew how useful they could be on my travels from the fortress back to Taalen, there were a lot of monsters out there - And dreadful humans that could cause trouble as well. I turned around the corner and saw that the door to the laboratory was open. Assuming Geralt was back and studied the leshy again, I walked straight into the room. „How was-"
