I woke up to the sound of the birds chirping and my alarm clock buzzing. I rolled over tiredly to reach and slap my alarm clock off. My headache was so bad, I felt like someone hit me with a sledge hammer and then threw it on my head. I got up and got ready for work, leaving some time for me to sit around or clean up as always.
The walk to the bookshop (where I worked) was peaceful. Didn't get catcalled that much and the old ladies didn't give me weird looks because my cleavage was showing.
"Hey Mia" I heard a voice call, I turned around to see Chris. Chris was Dean's best friend, he and I had a love/hate kind of friendship.
"Oh, Hey chris. It's Mariana, you don't get to call me Mia" I smiled and squinted my eyes to tease him. He caught up with me.
"In that case, It's Christopher to you" he smiled and playfully shoved me.
"Christopher sounds like a name of some important white man during the renaissance" I laughed a bit.
"Like Christopher Columbus? He was very important during the renaissance" Chris flattered himself, he always did that. He had that attitude like he was better than everyone else- a very confident man.
"That's exactly who I was thinking" I acted shocked then laughed.
"Did you hear about the big party tonight? Dean got his sister and parents out of the house for the night so it's gonna be over there, You should come" Chris said. Deans parties were always something interesting. Last time I went to one of his parties, cops showed up and everyone-sober and drunk-ran out and away from the house, Dean included. It would be nice to go to a party and let loose a bit.
"I'll see if I have plans. I still have work and I think Bryan wanted to do something to-" I said before Chris cut me off.
"If you don't want to come then you could just say that, I understand" his tone sounded kind of annoyed. I looked up at him while we walked and he looked kind of sad. Chris and I were close and because Dean and I broke up Chris and I haven't had much time to really hang out.
"I'll see what I can do," I said as we approached the bookshop I worked in. I smiled at him to try and cheer him up. He met my eyes and gave an unamused face.
"I hope to see you there, everyone misses you Mia" he said before he walked away. I stood there confused for a second. What did he mean by everyone? Who was all going to be there? I walked into the shop and started my shift at the 'Hardcovers Bookshop' , one of my favorite jobs I've ever worked at. The name was pretty stupid but it had to do.After my shift was over I waited outside for Bryan to pick me up. He had called and said he would be taking me over to the shop to hang out with his mechanic friends. How exciting!- said with no excitement at all. Once we got to the shop I saw 5 men sitting around laughing and talking to each other. They all had beers and 2 had cigarettes. We walked up to them, Bryan went first. He shook everyone's hand like he didn't just see them all a couple hours ago.
I stood there, arms crossed and unamused about the whole thing. I really didn't feel like being there in the rusty old dirty shop.
"Hey Mariana, long time no see" A guy named Cole came up to me. He was the only other person I knew. Cole was our age, he came around a lot but it still didn't mean I liked him all that much.
"Hey" I forced a smile. "How've you been", Making small talk has never been more painful than it is right now.
After a while I sat on a stool they had at the shop and started going on my phone. I opened snapchat stories about Dean's party. They had a DJ in the living room, a whole bar in the kitchen, and LED lights everywhere. They also had some fancy cars out in the front. There were race cars, classic cars and attractive cars. Yes a car can be attractive, it could be more attractive then the person who drove it.
"Hey baby, are you having fun?" Bryan walked up to me. I didn't want to lie but I also didn't want to tell him the truth.
"I think I'm gonna go home, not feeling too well", I said.I felt fine, I just didn't want to be there.
"Oh? Want me to drive you?" He offered. He came in close for a hug.
"No it's fine I'll take a cab" I hugged him then smiled. "I love you" I said as I looked into his eyes.
"I love you too, text me when you get home" he helped me put my jacket on before kissing me goodbye.
Once I left I started looking at more snaps of Dean's party. Would it be bad if I went?
I got a taxi to take me back home. I decided to stay in for the night. I flopped on my couch as soon as I got home, sinking into the cushions. Not making a single movement. Until my phone rang.
"Hello?" I answered before even reading the number.
"Where are you?" Dean asked from the other end of the call.
"Home, why?" My voice was blank, bored and sounded kind of annoyed.
"Well I'm on my way so be ready in the next 10 minutes" he said. Was he not having a party at his house right now?
"Ready for what?" I asked. I got up from my couch and ran to my closet. I looked for an outfit before Dean even answered my question.
"My party, you're not saying no because I'm not asking, I'm telling . Be ready" he said. He hung up before I could argue.
I searched my closet for something to wear. I knew what Dean liked me in and I trusted his opinion. I always looked good in whatever he chose.
I slid on my white straight leg jeans that complimented my body. I dug through my clothes and found a cropped black top that showed a bit of cleavage. I finished the outfit with a small white handbag and a pair of my favourite strappy heels. I curled my hair and finished the look with my deep red lipstick and false lashes that made my brown eyes look dangerous. I looked as good as I felt. Not quite ready yet, I need accessories.
As I searched through my jewelry box before I heard a knock at my door.
Fuck has it already been ten minutes?
