The next morning I woke up to a knock on my front door. Dean was still passed out from last night, he was always such a deep sleeper but he looked too peaceful for me to wake him up. I slid out from under his arm and off the bed before finding random shorts and a T-shirt and throwing them on. I walked to the front door and as soon as I opened it my heart ached with regret.
"Hey baby" Bryan's eyes lit up like it's the first time he's seeing me all year. He held flowers in his hand.
I try to force words out of my mouth. "What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I wanted to surprise you" he pushes his way past me and into my apartment. "I got you flowers because I remember how on one of our first dates you said you loved getting random flowers" my body ached with regret.
"I-I.." I didn't know what to say. Bryan walked closer to me and slowly wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Listen babe. I just want to apologize for the way I've been acting lately. I know that you must feel pushed aside and left out of my life but I don't want that anymore. I promise I'm going to change that. Okay?" His voice was soft and delicate, like he was being extra careful with my heart now. My mouth was open but no words could come out. But before I knew it his lips were on my so I really couldn't say anything.
Bryan stepped back from me with a smile. "So, shall I make you breakfast?" He winked and headed toward the kitchen.
"Bryan," I called. He turned around and looked at me. "I'm actually grabbing breakfast with Elaina today, she's picking me up and dropping me to work"
"Oh, ok then. I should probably get going then" He said as he walked towards me again. He wrapped his arms around me and hugged me tightly. "I love you Mia, don't forget that". He planted a kiss on my cheek and began to back away from me. I smiled at him
"I love you too" I walked him out and made sure I locked the door. I leaned back on the door and closed my eyes. Either he did something wrong or he knew I did something wrong. When I opened my eyes again I saw Dean peeking around the corner.
"So that happened" He said with a shocked tone. I nodded. "And the boyfriend came here" I nodded again. He walked towards me with his arms crossed. "Listen, I don't want to put you in a difficult situation. If you don't want to see me then say it now and I can leave and we won't have this happen again"
Dean was trying to do the right thing, be the bigger person in the situation. But I didn't exactly know what I even wanted anymore. Bryan is sweet and soft but always unavailable, and Dean is sweet but tough and always available.
Why do I get myself in these situations?
