My Grandma is another novel on her own, believe me. She will never lack something to say;a story to tell, an advice to give, a comment to share. I guess it's one of the things about being old, there's just more you've seen in life and so, pretty much to tell.
Looking at her I kept wondering if I'd be a grandma one day, sharing moments with my own grandchildren and children.
But for now, let me worry about being the lady I was. We'll come to that once the time is right. Besides, my mother wasn't even there yet.
So it was a big and fun session for once, 4 women felt like a big number. And there was Joseph who enjoyed sitting on one lap to the next because he couldn't understand what we were having. It's also good to be a kid, everyone takes care of you a lot more than when you're as old as me or Cindy.
Grandma talking was enough for all of us. I mean no one had to find a topic at least. All we had to do was ask questions, comment or laugh, simple as that.
"I was a beautiful girl when I was your age you know. Used to be the hot chic in my days," she said.
"I don't doubt that for a second, I think that's how you grew to be this stubborn granny."
"How is stubbornness associated with beauty?"
"You know people admire you so you behave repulsive around them to attract attention to you," I explained.
"Why not? I had to raise my class a bit so they'd chase me around and I'd just gladly turn them down."
"I am glad I know you this much."

The conversation went on and on for over 2 hours. Then we happily sat down for a meal together. That night we ate rice and peas, and if you knew my mother well enough, and vegetables. I argue with her about it once in a while telling her too much of something is poisonous, and all I ever get is she read no science stating vegetables as poisonous.
And since grandma came, I've never raised it up fearing what she'll say to me. She is harsh once in a while and I had a feeling this was one of those once in a while part.

Outside, the moon was gibbous. Meaning soon it'd be full then lost altogether, as we await the rains. The air was cold and felt very fresh when it hit my face. The whole area was so silent except for the chirping of the crickets, and a little buzzing of mosquitoes. It was an easy environment, one that let you feel light, I just wanted to stretch my arms, inhale the air, and let my mind wander freely.
But before I could even do all that, my phone rang.
Uh-huh! That name on the screen did things to me.
"Hey, how're you?"
Not to make the atmosphere noisy or shift the relaxing feel, I simply lay in the grass, my head facing up.
And then I used the most soothing voice I could make.
"Am good. How're you?"
"I miss you," that came out more of a whisper. And my whole body reacted in a warm sensation flowing through.
"I miss you more," I mumbled and closed my eyes shyly like he was there watching me.
"Linn," he called out so sweetly.
"Yes."
"Want to be my girl?"
And that's how he cast a spell on me. For a second I think I couldn't breath, then the million butterflies in my stomach woke up. I couldn't even find my voice. Goodness! He was proposing!
"Flen I..." I couldn't make a speech.
"Hey Linn, Grandma wants you inside," she said.
"Sorry Flen, I got to go."
I hung up before he could even answer.
Why did she choose this perfect moment to interrupt!?
It was annoying!
He'd asked me if I wanted to be his girl, for heaven's sake.
I simply went in without a word, only to be told Joseph was asking for me.
Goodness!
That was it?
I said nothing, just sat there till sleep time. No one asked me anything, not even my talkative grandma.

Too afraid to even text him, I slid under the covers and lay with my stomach facing up, wondering what had just happened outside tonight.
