The coffee shop was really so busy. Customers flowed in and out largely, most leaving with a satisfying smile written on their faces. Maybe being a waitress isn't a bad idea after all.
I had been to the shop for two hours now, that was after seeing Bill and May off; then passing by the hospital to say good morning to Mum. She was to be discharged later in the day.
It was so much fun giving to everyone what they preferred, till there came this young guy. I was the one to take his orders. He looked at me so mischievously and smiled.
I really hope nothing's wrong with me.
"What would you like, please? " I asked as politely as possible. That was etiquette.
"Cappuccino and a coffee cake. "
Wow! Maybe I misjudged him earlier.
I brought him his order and was just turning to leave when he called me back.
"Hey, why are you in such a hurry? Won't even wait for my compliment on the meal? "
That was new to me, I mean there has never been a thing as waiting for a client to talk out their opinion and go. Well...
"Am getting back to work you know. As of any complains or appreciation, you know how to handle that. " I was really trying hard not to sound any rude.
"So, you work here daily? " he asked.
"Am working here today."
"Don't be so cold with me, am not a bad boy. Actually am Gabriel, you? "
So now we're even doing introductions, huh?
"Linn. " I replied as short as possible.
"Linn...Linn Armor, right? "
"Wait, you know me? " I was shocked.
"I've only seen you. Let me not scare you. I study at Lakeview just as you do, a senior by the way. And I saw your presentation the other day. And today I see you here. That's how I know you," he replied with a smirk.
I let out a light "Oh",that was relieving enough.
Just then I heard Mary calling my name. The look on her face declared all she wanted to say but couldn't.
"I have to go back to work now. Bye. "
I said as I turned my back on him.
But he stopped me again, "Wait, maybe you could give me your number so we'll talk later if you don't mind. "
He pulled out his phone from his coat pocket.
"Am sorry, I don't have a phone. " I replied.
"Oh, see you around then. "As I made my way to the kitchen, I realized I've never considered the thought of owning a phone. There has always been Mum's phone only. And now that Gabriel mentioned it, maybe I should go for one. Not for his sake but I don't know; I just think I should have one. Mental note.
On my 5th birthday, Dad bought me a small piggy bank. He had said that I could save some money in it then one day when I'd need to purchase something I could use my savings.
One good thing about him was that most of the coins he had as change, he would give me. Whenever friends or family came over for a visit, they would always leave me some amount and I was faithful to keep them in my bank. Mum used to complain that Dad was spoiling me with all that little little money he gave me. Because I'd still ask anything from him if I needed it.
It's strange that even till now, I've never done anything with my bank. Because after dad left us, I got angry and decided to keep it out of sight. I didn't want to be reminded of the love back then as a family. I even can't remember where I kept it. Well, I need it now.
One light tap at the door and I jolted back to reality.
