The clinking of a glass pulls me away from flirting with my husband. Forcing us both to share our attention with our guests even if we'd prefer to be consumed by one another. My skin prickles with desire from the scorching caress of his flirtatious promises. Please can we just go back to paradise?
'If everyone could turn to face the dance floor, we'd like to start the speeches.' Our DJ who I think is called Cooper commends a room with his smooth as butter voice, echoing around the room. I watch as if I'm slow motion as our guests shuffle in their seats, turning so that they are all facing the stage / dance floor. The earlier noise of chatter and excitement bristles out into a peaceful silence.
'As tradition states we will be hearing from both the Maid of Honour and The best man so top up your glasses and settle in as I'm almost certain your in for a treat. To get us started I'd like to invite the Grooms, best man Chris to the stage'
Our guests cheer as Chris makes his way over to the dance floor, stepping down from the head table and gliding across the room. Taking hold of the microphone in the process.
'Thanks Coop.' He says, guesting with his head to our DJ.
'Brace yourself as we might be here a while' he teases as he pulls out a piece of paper and unfolds it, revealing a large A4 sheet. Purposely dragging out the unfolding of the paper. Only Teddy.
'Hello, I'm Chris. The best man - but you guys probably know me as the younger more dashing Williams brother. *the room around us chuckles.* I know what your thinking why didn't Sky pick me and not my older more grumpy brother.'
Smirking whilst trying to stifle a laugh I see Bryan give his brother a glare. Warning him to behave.
'Okay, sorry brother.' He apologies with a chuckle. 'Most people here will already know my relation to the groom so whilst planning out my speech I wanted it to centre around the bride. My official sis-in law. You see during the time I've gotten to know Sky and before her and Bryan went public we had on occasion been accused of being a couple. I know what everyone is thinking that's insane. We have the same thoughts too. I guess a lot of people really struggle with the conception of guys and gals just being friends...but that's what we are. Within the first hour of meeting Sky I knew I wanted her to be my friend. Not only that but within a short time period she become my closest, most dearest friend. Someone I was able to depend on, be vulnerable around and always count on to have my back. Which is a rarity, I'd only ever had that relationship with my brother and that's probably because he's got no choice.'
The more I listen to Teddy the more emotional I feel. My chest feels more tight in more corset than it had before and my eyes are starting to sting from the unshed tears. If he doesn't wrap this up soon I'm going to be a blubbering mess. It also doesn't help that he's no looking at our guests his sole focus is on us...Bryan and I.
'Anyway before I get far too sentimental and start crying myself I wanted to share a memory with you all. Kind of a milestone within our friendship.'
As Teddy pauses to read over his speech my mind flutters a memory from our early days of friendship coming back to life before my eyes.
We're at the beach in Malibu, Bryan and I hadn't made our relationship public so we had to keep some distance between us. Which also meant we couldn't spend all our time together so I spent it with Chris. Damn I even got him to give me a piggy back down the steps to the beach...the sound of his voice draws me back into the present. Forcing the vision playing in front of me to fade away.
'We've had so many milestones within our friendship ones that strengthened our relationship - weaving us together with trust. I think Sky had been in LA a couple of days and we all decided to go to a beach party in Malibu. But as our newly weds hadn't officially made things official Quinn and Sky arrived together whilst I arrived with the boys. Somehow Sky managed to swindle me into giving her a piggie back ride down the steps to the beach. Something about her heals and the steep decline of the cliff going down. Either way I did it and on the way down she called me a name...Teddy. It was the first time someone had given me a nickname. I know it sounds small but for me it meant everything and it's become one of my favourite memories.'
My eyes fill with tears as I listen intently to my best friend talk about us, feeling a sense of voodoo magic as he speaks of the memory I'd relived earlier.
'So we hung out and we got to know one another and something between us just clicked. We'd have these shared jokes - hidden agendas and a shared desire to piss Bryan off so obviously the friendship was blessed.'
We all laugh in unison as my husband gives both Chris and I a darkening look. Huh seems he didn't find that part of the speech funny.
'Seems to me you've captured more than just my heart, kitten'
'Hardly surprising, bubby. I am a fiery little thing'
I tease before leaning into his side, loving how my husband wraps his arm around my waist. His hand resting on my hip as his fingers dig slighting into my corset. Feeling emotional I snuggle into his chest, savouring the feeling of his strong muscular chest beneath me.
From within his hold we each raise a glass and celebrate the end of Chris's speech. The tears I'd tried to hold within me falling free. Cascading down my cheeks onto the material of my skirt.
'Your the brother I always needed and the sister I never knew I was waiting for' he shouts. Slowly handing over the microphone and walking over to us. We both stand and give him a hug.
'Thank-you, Teddy.' I breath before pulling away and going back to my earlier position.
Damn if Quinn's speech is anything like Teddy's I'm really in for an emotional rollercoaster. Why hadn't I tried to pry some information out of her earlier during our chat. Too late now thought.
'Here' he whispers, holding out his handkerchief from his suit pocket. The light crystal blue of the cloth reminding me of my husbands eyes. 'Thank-You' I say as I take the handkerchief, dabbing my face free from tears. Once clear I wrap the cloth around my hand, trying to expel the nerves from within me.
'Breathe baby.' He whispers against my temple as we settle into a comfy position.
